I notice most of your PFs have good wraps. Curious is that something you looked for when buying these at the time? Most of these PFs are just so chronically miswraped its crazy :frustrated:! The most wickedly miswraped comic book of all time might be ASM106!!!

I put a lot of effort into finding copies with good cover wraps.  The bad ones come in a few flavors.  Some are crooked top to bottom.  I think Ironman #44 is notorious for this.  Some are miswrapped back to front, leaving a large white stripe along the left edge.  And some are miswrapped front to back, putting some of the front cover picture frame onto the back cover and leaving a thin bar of picture frame along the left edge.  I see this in many copies of Subby #44, for instance.  But for some scarce issues, I took what I could get - the Astonishing Tales #12 with a back-to-front miswrap is an example.

One of the many things I love about Barton's picture frame collection is the large number of near-perfect cover wraps in it, even for issues notorious for their miswraps from bad production.

You were a rare breed! You could almost qualify for pedigree status. Not a PF but I think Power Man annual 1 is another notorious miswrap. The front to back ones are usually silvers from what I've seen though I'm sure you know better. Anecdotally I think ASM 28 is often a front to back

Congrats to Bob on the prices realized on some of the Hulk PF’s

Did my best to win the three I was going after but only wound up with one.

I just noticed what Bob's Hulk #151 9.8 sold for - $3,077.

Wow. Nice, Bob!

I did snag a few consolation prizes for myself. But nothing in that stratosphere.

Thanks for your bids and congrats on the buys. (thumbsu  The auction overall has smashed my expectations of fair market value so far - I'll post a list of the books and their final bids after the last of the auctions, the Thors, ends Friday.

Congrats on the Hero for Hire #1, more than double GPA, but it is a beauty. :applause:

Thanks.  I'm assuming based on the astonishing hammer price that a couple of bidders believe it has the potential to be upgraded to a 9.8.

Looking at it, that would not surprise me, it's a stunner, just hope they don't get a bad press job done on it and spoil it.

I think you mean the 9.6 white. Yeah he hit the hammer jackpot on that! Not even a trace of white on that spine! It's why Clink is so much better than Ebay for consignors. Anyway I don't think there was a scan of the back cover during the auction? There could be a spec or two of foxing on the back that may not have been in the notes so the regrade is a risk. Just looking at the front it appears to be a solid candidate. They're not exactly lenient on grading these days

Speaking of the Thors, Bob, I imagine you're pretty happy with the results for the #198 and #203. Yowza.

I didn't win those, but I was happy to snag 2 of your Thors tonight.

Market Report, June 2020

The auction of 77 high grade slabbed picture frame Marvels at ComicLink was a success for the seller.  The results resembled those back in March of the first batch of 79 comics: whereas the hammer prices on a number of books were either in line or below expected market value, a handful of books went for record GPA prices, making the overall result well above expectations.  One of the positive surprises was the Hero For Hire #1, discussed above as a possible upgrade candidate.  The other comics that crushed their previous GPA record prices were all scarce in ultra high grade and rarely come up for sale.

Here are the final hammer prices.  Feel free to discuss any of them of interest  individually, or what the aggregate results mean for the current state of the picture frame high grade market.   I hope those of you who bought books from this list don't mind the purchase price being made public - if you do mind, let me know via p.m. and I'll remove your books from the list.

I was tied up the first night of the auction and missed out on the Hulk Annual (I would have placed a higher bid) but was happy to snag the Thor #206 - one I have been hunting for years - right at GPA. Congrats on the sale. Amazing collection. (thumbsu

Glad you were able to win one of the books for your collection.  That Thor is an especially good win, because it's an unattributed Suscha News pedigree copy.  It's also got history on the Boards - I bought it from Batmiesta, who had it reholdered and let me know it had come from the premier picture frame Marvel collection of them all.

So if I ever get it reholdered I can just give CGC your number and they will add the pedigree? :wishluck:

I believe you'd have to get documentation that traces it back to Metropolis and the pedigree.  Perhaps Batmiesta might be able to provide it.  They won't just take a submitter's word for it.

Very happy for you, Bob.

You still have plenty left, right? And are they in the auction pipeline yet?

More than half the collection is gone, Barton, from the two CLink auctions and the private sale of the Avengers and Captain America runs.  My current plan is to sell the rest in two further consignments.  I won't make the Focused auction going in July, and my books won't be accepted for the Summer Featured Auction, so I'll probably shoot for a September/October auction next.  That one will likely include my Fantastic Four, X-Men, Conan, Marvel Spotlight, Marvel Feature, Warlock, Submariner, and Marvel Tales runs.  The Western titles will probably be sold at a fourth auction, and might include the Sgt. Fury run as well.  We'll see how things go during these times of uncertainty.  I'm extremely pleased with the excellent service and great outcomes from ComicLink so far, and so barring any changes in our relationship will use them for the rest of the collection, too.

I'm going to look on the bright side, especially after looking at your registry set. It looks like about 150 books are left. And to keep up with the looking theme, it looks like I'll be bidding again and again.
