Romita writing and signature:

Something's fishy...

Doesn't look like Romita Spidey.

And the sig isn't even close. I don't think I've ever seen a Romita sig that wasn't all Caps.

Some older Romita Sr. pieces are indeed signed 50/50 written/printed combination.

But I have never seen a Romita signature on a sketch with an "R" like that.

Also the proportions, feet, head, hands, and ink lines are all wrong.

I wouldn't touch this unless it was free....then I still might not touch it.

Actually I'm going to say it's probably legit.

A really rushed '70's con sketch.

The handwriting seems to be John's

1) From 'Jerome', the 'J' is consistant with John's current signature.

2) From 'Jerome', the 'e's are consistant.

3) The 'r' in 'Jerome' is similar to the 'R' in 'Romita'.

4) 'r' and 'o' are attached similar to 'Ro' in 'Romita'.

5) 'm' is one continuous stroke like the current signature although not exact.

6) The 'odd' 'John Romita' signature is like the one's posted in the comics in the

60's. I'm not sure when he switched signatures.

If the artwork is drawn with a Flair marker rather than a Sharpie, this would

make sense. But I can't tell from the scan.

Of course Mike Burkey or John himself would be the people to ask.

But why ?

It's such a non-stellar piece to even be concerned with.

Why not get John to draw a NICE Spider-Man ?

It'll be more expensive. But you will have providence and may be a moment

with a legend.

IMHO,

John H.

I'm not enough of an expert to offer an opinion on how legit it is.

BUT, if you were going to forge something, why would you personalize it, which would decrease value?

Malvin

Plausible Deniability...would be my guess.

It certainly doesn't look right to me. The feet are totally wrong, and even Spidey's body just doesn't have the Romita-Spidey look. His Spidey always seemed a bit more athletic looking.

And, I never noticed this before (too busy watching MC Hammer dance), but Bert is biting that Baby's head off!!!!! :o :o :o

First off, he had it coming...and (B) babies are a delicacy on Sesame Street, why do you think they spend all their time with kids?

The hands and the feet bother me. It may be a heavier pen than I'm used to seeing Romita work with, but they're more angular than anything I've seen him do.

I mostly agree with john h.'s handwriting analysis, but the "R" in "Romita" still bugs me. It's a huge departure from his usual signature style and if it's a quick con sketch, why isn't his signature a little more rushed too?

I'm suspicious enough to stay away.....
