Spin-off: What's the best 10-20 issue comic book run to read?

120 posts in this topic

Strange Tales 178-181, Warlock 9-15, Avengers Annual 7, MTIO Annual 2. IMO, the greatest galactic tale ever written.

Beat me to it by seconds because I was talking and typing!

:insane:

:baiting:

You've got good taste.

Lets see

Read Amazing Spider-man #189 - 200. Great group of books.

Strange Tales #178 - 181, Warlock #9 - 15, Avengers annual 7, Marvel 2 in 1 annual #2 is great.

Superboy & the Legion of Super-heroes...you can pick just about anything from #197 - 259.

Amazing Spider-man #88 - 125 are great.

Marvel Team-up #1 - 50

I love the early Iron Man issues, #1 - 50 or so

As far as favorite single issues, Amazing Spider-man #200 is right up there, but alot of that is built up in the previous issues.

doesn't have to be all one story. just 10-20 or so issues in a run that are an excellent read. something that will stick with you.

If you want to browse through story arcs this page is great: Comic Book Story Arcs . Several different ways to sort them all, and shows how many issues an arc spans.

enjoyable...

Solar 1-10, including Alpha & Omega

JSA (2002?) entire run. Just grab any issue and read the next 10 to 20. (the Black Reign arc stands out)

The Spectre (Ostrander/Tom Mandrake series) entire run. Any issues in a row would be good stuff. Amazing cover art through the whole series.

Cosmic Odyssey 4 issues or tpb. Jim Starlin story with Mike Mignola art. :cloud9: Makes the DCU seem huge and satisfying.

Superman: Exile forget which issues, just grab the tpb. It's the opposite of the Superman film. No Luthor as evil realtor, away from Metropolis, away from earth, following his nose out in space...

Mage-Hero Discovered 1-15

Cerebus Church and State---funniest run in the series

Watchmen is a given

And I gotta go with someone's earlier Swamp Thing 23-50 American Gothic.

Lastly...Paul Smith's run on X-MEN, issues 167-175

Strange Tales 178-181, Warlock 9 to 15, Avengers Annual 7, Marvel Two-in-One Annual 2, which together is my all-time favourite storyline.

Daredevil 227 to 233- "Born Again" by Miller and Mazzuchelli

Saga of the Swamp Thing 20 to 34, as mentioned previously, plus Annual 2

Captain America (Ed Brubaker run) 1 to 25 - my favourite run of this decade

Ya beat me to it...I was gonna say FF 38-58 but you really need to go all the way to 60!

Also...

JIM/THOR 107 - 127 (As a bonus, there's those Tales of Asgard as well!)

ST 110 - 130 (First 20 Ditko Doc Strange)

ASM 13 -33 (culminating in the greatest 3-arc story run in ASM history!)

:headbang:

oh, if you are talking about more modern books

Try the Jim Starlin run on Silver Surfer vol 3 #34 - 50, which continues into the Thanos Quest and the Infinity Gauntlet.

Just picked up the TPB. Good read... (thumbs u

And when you get tired of superheroes, try these...

Creepy 1-17

Mad 1-20

Our Army at War 235-255

Tarzan (DC) 207-227

Jonah Hex 1-20 (either the Bronze or the Modern)

Sandman Mystery Theatre (begining around issue 39, any twenty are great!)

Mentioning Creepy and Mad made me think about EC Comics.

Weird Science, Weird Fantasy, Frontline Combat, Two-Fisted Tales and Shock Suspenstories, all runs that I'd recommend to anyone.

Brilliant stuff.
