He's Michael DeChellis in the NOD list:

My favorite part is that he's actually selling his frankenbooks on ebay:

"Light Professional" restoration, indeed :screwy:

Master CPU,

I couldn't help but notice you have a NOD logo in your signature line at CPG, but you don't have the logo in your signature here. Would you please tell us who you are in NOD?

I didn't have the NOD Logo here primarily because I wasn't doing to well and didn't want them dragged into my mess. That may or may not have been the right choice but I hope to change it soon. I am for better or worse the same name everywhere unless it says its taken then I put a dash before the C.

Then wouldn't the term "Professional" be in conflict with NOD, as he is clearly not professionally trained (he has stated this himself,no)? hm(shrug)

Well , for a start I was thinking of closing website and switching to amateur experimenter on non-keys and just do some stuff for friends with detailed docs. Post my experiments online and take all the criticism in with stride. Avoid CT and don't do something on a key unless its done right. Just a thought. End of line....

That is the smartest thing I have seen you post in a long time. I'll be one of the first in line to back you up if you are sincere about it.

Hey, you really did shut down your Web site! Cool man, well done. So, why the change of heart? You've been so defiant for so long, I figured you were just happy to go your own way and damn the consequences.

I think this sums it up for the most part.

Its a daunting task to swim a river upstream, alone. Massive energy being burnt and you do not even get anywhere. Its wiser to go with the flow and others can help carry you along your way.

And this:

I think you would have been much better received if you simply posted hi res photos of your work and said, "hey guys.. I tried this on a comic.. what do you think?" Instead of what we got which was you posting off angle photos of work that you did for clients, that was less then stellar to the point of unnecessary.

This isn't a game, or personal. It just is.

I would rethink how you are promoting yourself because many of the people you should be trying to impress you are turning away. People want to root for a fellow collector, give them something to root for.

2c

I could just see it wasn't working and getting worse instead of better. I hope to start over with a clean slate. :)

I am very pleased to hear of this as well Mike!

WTG Mike, I think you will find people much more receptive to what you are doing if you simply let things evolve naturally. It takes time, and you have only been at this what 7 months or so?

As you get better people will take notice even they do not say anything. And those that do I hope you take in stride be they good or bad comments. Even if you do put up work people cannot stand, or think is terrible.. they wont ride you nearly as hard because you are doing it as a learning experience, not a business.

Good luck.

be prepared for people to be cynical and distrustful of your 180. don't let them get to you, just work that much harder to show that your intentions are good and you will win all but the most hardened eventually.

if you're truly sincere, and it seems you are, then kudos to you for sucking up some pride and listening to those who are trying to help you out. good luck on your venture, hopefully one day good, deserved restoration and conservation will be more widely accepted in the hobby than it is today

Mike, I have been one of your biggest detractors solely through the attitude you were showing when everybody was telling you the same thing. If you're going to listen and take things in that people tell you then I hope you can start from scratch and learn.

A few pointers I would make:

  • Take down the website (which I think you've already done).
  • Cut all ties with PGX.
  • Don't work on other people's books until you have a firm grasp of processes.
  • Don't give your books your own label.
  • Don't work on key books.

All arguments aside, if you're serious about it, then the best of luck.
