Second childhood... *UFF spoilers*

Well I finally braved the cold and went to my LCS and got Ultimite FF 1.

The guy almost fell over since it's been 20+ years since I bought one "off the rack".

I even got some tootsie roll pops because that's what I use to eat (I didn't want to say suck on blush.gif ) while reading as a 12 year old.

Orange and Grape only. The other flavors... phooy! tongue.gif

Great! thumbsup2.gif

Reed finding the Negative Zone while working in his Garage as a kid! 27_laughing.gifthumbsup2.gif

Sue is going to have some scientific know how this time around! thumbsup2.gif

A few small down points:

Reed was starting to look like Peter Parker there for awhile. 893naughty-thumb.gif

He should be able to "take care of himself" without his super powers.

Anyone remember Sgt. Fury 3?

They are so young. confused.gif

The Torch will be an 8 year old for crying out loud. foreheadslap.gif

For issue two:

I can't wait to meet Victor Doom as a teen-age rival for Reed. grin.gif

Doctor Storm is a cheapo and doesn't want to pay baby sitting fees... smirk.gif

As you can tell by my pic I'm liking things so far. thumbsup2.gif

Well I finally pick up issue 2 but my LCS was sold out of issue 3! foreheadslap.gif

Good grief, couldn't they have squeezed the Mole Man into issue 1 even if it was just a cameo?

Victor Van Damme?

Damme!?

They are toying with my mind... mad.gif

Clearly I'm not as pleased with number 2 but I'm holding out hope. cool.gif

I've only read UFF and USM(Spidey)... confused.gif

The Ultimates is the name of the Avengers analogue in the Ultimate U. It's more or less the classic lineup: Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Giant Man. The best of the Ultimate lot, from what I've seen, but almost never ships. (Blame Bryan Hitch for that: gorgeous art, but...)

The Ultimates is definitely the best of the bunch. Millar/ Hitch- two Authority alums 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

There is an Ultimate X-Men- which I also read and enjoy. It's actually the only X-Men book I've read off of the shelves monthly- for more than the art; in over 20 years. It's not Byrne/Claremont, but it does read well, the art is pretty cool and, most importantly, it lacks the ridiculous baggage of the regular Marvel continuity so it IS readable.

I would warn against any of them if you're looking for a simple, FAITHFUL retellings of the classic stories. There are differences all over the place, so if the change like "Van Damme" is the sort of thing that really bothers you, I would just stay away from the Ultimate universe in general. If not, the ones I've read have been pretty good.
