It depends on what their potential was.

Some people never change & don't want to. They are perfectly content never exploring the world. Perhaps getting married w/ kids & singing Bible hymns IS their full potential. S'ok. If they're happy w/ their decisions... who am I to knock 'em.

Do you think that people who you grew up with and still live in the same small town are not living up to their potential?

Frankly I don't. I grew up in Baltimore and I plan to live here for the rest of my life. Doesn't mean didly as far as I'm concerned--People can reach, or not reach their potential anywhere.

To be clear, I understand his point. I had NO contact w/ any but 3 of the people that I grew up w/ for well over 20yrs (& even they only in the last 5yrs). I grew up in a small town in the fields of Indibanana. Once 1 friend from High School or College tracked me down on facebook, everybody started crawling out of the woodwork. Thus the facebook link.

Well is this a judgment of small towns only?

My wife was born in a small town, moved to a large city, got educated, traveled to Europe a couple times and last year we moved back to the small town.

Is this a success or failure?

I have contact with only 1 person on facebook from my home town and really have no desire to track old school folks from school or my home town and probably wouldn't move back there unless a relative needed some long term care or something.

Am I living up to my potential?

I think the concept of 'leaving home' really has no bearing on most facets of our lives.

no. Spent the last 15 years myself living in different parts of the US, getting educated, working, etc. But once married and we had a family, we learned very quickly small town is the way to go and moved back. I'd say this has been a major success for us. (thumbs u

First off, what people say on Facebook I would suggest taking with a grain of salt.

However if what everyone lists as his or her careers are true, then I am the most unsuccessful graduate from my class and I'm and Engineer.
