NM or VF?

6 posts in this topic

Hello -

I posted this the other day in the Grading and Restoration board.

Kryptonitecomics was a big help but I was wondering what some other people thought.

Thank you!

First, Here is a recent issue of Jenkins/Ramos' Spectacular Spider-Man (possibly #7).

The cover is slightly shifting off center so the pages are showing on the top right side. Anyone ever see this happen?

At the comic store I always lay my comics flat on a big hardcover to get the best one out of the pile. After reading this issue I slid it into a Silver Age bag with board and noticed the cover was missaligned.

I am wondering if this make the grade drop from NM to VF?

OK Here is another...

This is Extinction Event #5 by DC/Wildstorm Comics.

I don't know if you can tell from the digi pic but there are pages showing near the bottom right. This one is a little more extreme than the Spidey one.

Does this drop the grade down to VF?

Thanks again!

I just have to say that even though the concensus is that the grade still holds at NM this kind of defect or "occurance" is a real thorn in my side. I just do not like the way it looks!

I know it could be a lot worse. There could be major spine dings or folds or tears on the cover. I also understand that Extinction Event #5 will never be worth a whole lot(unless Brett Booth becomes RED HOT! ).

If this had happened to any of my Jim Lee Batman issues I would certainly be hunting down new copies.

Another thing, just what the heck is this defect called? Is it miswrap...fanning?? Is there a name for it?

I own lots and lots of comics(been collecting since 1985) and I realize that the covers do shift over time. I have a lot of Jim Lee Uncanny X-Men issues that I bagged without backing boards I should probably be checking up on.

In another thread BassGMan said, "....we have all been trained by CGC slabs to have much higher standards that we used to..."

I totally agree with this. Years ago I dont even think I paid any attention to the right hand side of the book.
