Bidders from N.Y now must pay sales tax on Heritage purchases?

This came up this morning when I logged into to Heritage comics .

 

 

Effective April 15th Heritage will be required by state law to charge all applicable sales taxes on any items delivered to New York addresses other than sales to dealers with valid New York sales tax numbers who are purchasing for resale and who furnish us with a properly completed New York resale certificate (exempt purchasers may, of course, furnish us with properly completed New York exemption certificates). I never knew it! I guess it popped up because I placed a bid for the first time in a long time.

I wasn't to happy about it either since I'm in NY. The buyers premium + the sales tax pretty much pushed me away from the Heritage auctions

ok, thinking out of the box here. but can you have Heritage ship to a friend outside NY and pay them by check? say someone in NJ and then pick the book up there? I am assuming this would be worth it for a Hulk 1 CGC 9.2 purchase no?

Sure it's possible and Peter owns property outside of NYC. He's just going to have to be patient to get his package, that's all.

I've had to deal w/ sales tax forever since I'm in Texas.

Just figure it into your bid, there's still deals to be had.
