The recently reprinted Simon and Kirby Sandman run is one of my favorites...neat stuff for around 40 bucks. Also reprinted and extremely good GA material is the Captain America 1-10 run. GOD BLESS...

I second PlasticMan, D ick Tracy, Little Lulu, Barks' Duck books, and would add The Spirit (postwar), early Scribbly (in All-American), Underworld, Dynamite (Johnny Dynamite), Babe (by Boody Rogers), Flash 86-104 (Kubert Hawkman, Black Canary, Infantino Flash, and some Kinstler and Krigstein thrown in), Adventure 72-80 (S&K Sandman and Manhunter, Burnley Starman), Phantom Lady and of course most of the EC output.

I second that and definitely the EC horror books if getting creeped out is your thing!

Tales From The Crypt

Haunt Of Fear

Vault Of Horror

Add "Crime SuspenStories" and "Shock SuspenStories" to that list.

Many of these can be picked up in inexpensive reprint form.

The best overall for PreCode Horror! :headbang:

My list would include:

JSA in All-Star Comics (the early ones can be dull and formulaic but the later ones are awesome)

Barks Ducks

Pogo by Walt Kelly

Little Lulu

Scribbly by Sheldon Mayer

Plastic Man by Jack Cole

Superman (Action and Superman)

Batman (Detective and Batman)

Sandman, both the fedora wearing one and the purple and yellow spandex one

anything by Simon & Kirby

anything by Will Eisner

anything by Bill Everett

The Ray (Lou Fine)

Captain Marvel (Whiz and Captain Marvel Adventures)

pretty much anything by EC from 1950-55

Captain Marvel Jr. by Raboy in Master Comics

anything by Wolverton (Weird Mysteries, Mistery Mystery, Powerhouse Pepper, etc.)

and if you want something completely off-the-wall (even moreso than Wolverton), try Fletcher Hanks. Best way to read them is to get the two volumes by Paul Karasik... full color reprints with the original coloring.

Tracy, the Jack Cole Plastic Man stories are excellent reads.

Bill's right on with those Plastic Man "Jack Cole" stories, Great read. :cloud9:

I also like Bill Everett's Amazing Man run that I have read, and All Star Comics .

You can find the archive editions on All Star & Plastic Man , highly recommend!!!!

I've just finished re-reading the Weird Fantasy run - great stuff.

But let me put in a word for the EC war books. Frontline Combat and Two Fisted Tales (esp 25-35) are head and shoulders above other war comics of the time.
