OT: Coin-op Video Games

I would kill for one of those 90's era four player arcade X-Men games! Cyclops ruled in that game.

Seriously, my friend and I spend may a 20 dollar bill in quarters playing that game on the boardwalk in Wildwood. Ah, good times... :cloud9:

I had a chance to buy one of those for about $400 at an arcade auction. The freaking thing it about 8 feet wide and just as tall! HUGE!

Tell me that wouldn't be an amazing piece to add to any comic book man cave!?! I have to get one!

Yep! I sure did spend my fair share of quarters on that game back in the day.

I purchased coin ops of Double Dragon and Ninja Gaiden at a rummage sale for $300 total. They are both working, while Ninja Gaiden is AMAZING condition, Double Dragon is in need of some repairs. It still works but the marquee needs replacing and one of the joysticks is loose in its' place and needs replacement altogether. When I moved from Milwaukee, WI to Superior, WI I had to leave them with a friend for safe keeping because the chore of moving those things was too much to bear.

If you've never played the original arcade Ninja Gaiden I strongly suggest doing so. Completely different from any other version. You basically walk around swinging and jumping on things while beating up Jason from Friday the 13th looking dudes.

I would love to have a Ms. Pac Man Arcade or an NBA Jam coin op game someday.

I built it over two years ago, and I just now got around to having the art for the control panel printed up  If you're thinking about building one of these, I say GO FOR IT! I can play all the games I played as a kid without having to beg my mom for quarters

Having bought about a dozen vintage arcade games (Pac-Man, Joust, Space Invaders, etc.) for a friend's business, I suggest that if you can't repair them / maintain them yourself, you better find someone that will do the work cheap. Once it's up and running, it's like a car or a computer... something is bound to go bad on it.... board, power supply, monitor, etc. You're dealing with 20+ year old solid-state equipment.

I suggest going the MAME route... One machine (actually a PC) and you can play a TON of games...

Always wanted the TRON one. The one with the four games in it... I think if I would have saved the coins I put in that machine I would have been able to own one now!

Speak of the devil. Tron was always my favorite too from the early 80s. There will probably be a re-surgance of Tron nostalgia with the new movie coming soon. I love it when the tanks become recognizers as you advance in the game. Every level is also the name of a programming language at the time. My current coin-op games that I own: In my garage for playing - Tron, Sinistar, Rolling Thunder. In storage cause I don't have enough room in the garage - Popeye, Pac-Man coctail, Donkey Kong Mini (Cabaret), Stargate (Defender II). All these games were eBay purchases.

The Williams games are still challenging, original and just awesome even in 2010. Stargate is so difficult and was advanced for its time. Sinistar is great too. One of the first games with digitized speech. Google it if you don't remember. Gotta get me a Robotron and Joust too some day. :cloud9:

In my opinion, no one made better arcade games than Williams. Sinistar is my all-time fav... but I also love Robotron, Defender, Stargate and Joust.

Build a MAME machine! M.A.M.E. stands for Multiple Arcade Machnie Emulator. You can basically 'emulate' thousands of arcade machines on one machine.

I built my Captain Americade about 5 years back. Pretty fun project and its a BLAST at a party!! Has over 5,000 arcade games from Asteroids to some of the latest games and everything in between. The menu screen has the music from the Matrix, which is freaking sweet!

I am going to have a blast in about 10 years building another when my kids are a bit older.

Front of my Captain Americade, notice the drink holders on the side...
