Anaheim submits proposal to move San Diego Comic-Con

110 posts in this topic

One thing is for sure, you can't stop the con from growing. That sleeping giant is already awake.Either San Diego goes with an expansion,or it will go to Anaheim.I think the Wizard con is a precurser for the inevitable,to get a feel for how the con will do in Anaheim 2c

Why assume it'll be Anaheim? Why not LA?

Wizard World was a big failure, traffic is hell even without a con involved, less hotel space.etc.,etc. (shrug)

I'd have the same concerns with Anaheim. Too many hotels booked up by Disneyland tourists(we are talking July, after all), and nowhere to park outside of the Convention Center.

WWLA didn't work because the programming was sorely lacking. I attended, had no problem with traffic, and felt like I was done after walking the convention floor for 45 minutes.

Now what if the con was moved from july to april? so it's not the busy time at Disneyland? what if Wizard World at the Anaheim conv. center becomes Comic Con International?

I don't understand the scenario. Why would Comic-Con International hand the convention over to Wizard World?

And If Wizard World is trying to steal programming from Comic-Con, it seems they're only interested in the film and TV programming. WW Anaheim will be sorely lacking in the comic department, as all the major dealers are in Chicago that weekend. I'm 20 minutes from the Anaheim Convention Center, and doubt I'll even attend.

Clearly, Wizard is also attacking Chicago with its own con in August. If the crowds move to Anaheim in April, it may weaken Chicago. The question is whether Reed Exhibitions (who seems to put on great shows but really does ALL industries, not just comics) can weather the storm against it in Chicago and New York.

Reed seems to have MUCH more experience putting on conventions and shows and they're much more diversified. If the comic/comic movie industry craters for some reason, they won't be affected that much.

Not Comic con handing the con to Wizard World, the other way around.Wizard is a failing company, and can't even support it's magazines. It's just a matter of time for Wizard World cons to go away too.I'm just putting this out there as speculation but when it's all wrapped up in a neat little package it does make some sense, does'nt it (shrug)

http://www.disneymouselinks.com/disneyland-when-to-visit.aspx

The Disneyland Resort has two seasons, on season, and off-season. On season is considered summer starting in late June and ending Labor Day, Christmas (a two week period beginning the week before Christmas, ending New Years Day), and Spring Break. Off-season is every other time of year.

Wizard World Anaheim is currently Off-Season for Disneyland... which would be perfect for them.

Off Peak Season - Least Crowded

January Through Late February (Presidents' Day)

April Through the Week Before Memorial Day

Mid-September (After Labor Day) Through Mid-October (Columbus Day)

After Thanksgiving Through The Week Before Christmas

Average Attendence

Late February Through the Week Before Easter

Sundays except for Summer and Holiday Weekends

After Memorial Day Till Schools are out for Summer

After Columbus Day through Thanksgiving

Peak Season - Most Crowded

Saturdays

3 day Holiday Weeks

Week Before and After Easter

Summer (Schools are out) through Labor Day

Thanksgiving Weekend

Week Before Christmas through New Years

Move it to Orlando. We could use another convention. Plus, I am sure we have a disney presence here as well.

It's not Disney... It's Hollywood. Disney is just the synergistic part of this diabolical plan... :baiting:

Yes, I actually used the word "synergistic." :acclaim::sorry:

I don't think Wizard World is a threat to comicon. Other than making comicon closer to my house and leaving the gaslamp district open for my non-comic book vacation, I don't think Anaheim is preferrable to San Diego. I still think Vegas is the best bet, Vegas is a tourist mecca with cheap rooms, cheap flights, and plenty of entertainment. It has been a while since I have been there but I have been going since I was a kid and don't see why it would end the family aspect of comicon. Comicon would end the family aspect of comicon. They already have girls cosplaying as Pikachu hookers and I think Suicide Girls is a regular attraction. Not that there's anything wrong with that. It doesn't seem like a fun place for kids below a certain age anyway.

Vegas is a cool place,no doubt. It would take the family tourism out of the picture, you can't bring your kids to Vegas. What would the kids do while your gambling. It sure would take alot of revenue away from a Con,not having kids attend 2c

Of course, people with families could possibly try not gambling. Inexpensive hotels, good food, family-friendly shows. It seems as friendly as all the bars and homeless I walk past in SD going to the Con.

I can only imagine some of the casinos stepping it up to draw people in. During the porn convention, I see all the big names (I assume) being advertised at different places around town. Maybe we can see Stan Lee drop it like its hot at Cheetah's or perhaps just a Marvel party taking over club for a night.

Bedrock had a pole his booth in Chicago several years in a row.

The guy is just a legend!
