Picked up a nice run of Eerie and Creepy books on Ebay. Some of the later books had the dreaded cutouts from the ad section in the back of the mags but these earlier books survived uncut. The #6 - #9 are just really pretty copies, while the rest aren't too bad either.

Great stuff...but that Eerie #7 is just a fantastic cover! Never saw it before, and now it is a must have! Love this thread.

I first started following Frazetta in the mid 1970s when his softcover books & posters came out featuring all his paintings. At that time I thought the Eerie and Creepy covers were just licensed use of  Frazetta paintings that were already created. As I have started collecting the Warren books more heavily I'm thinking that the paintings were actually made for these magazines. Can someone confirm this either way?

If they actually were created specifically for the mags, it seems that they would be instant "classic cover" designations.

From what I've read, Jim Warren gave Frazetta the freedom to do whatever he wanted with most of these covers...and of course Frank delivered the goods!  :headbang:

WOW I always just assumed they were prints of already produced paintings. Pretty amazing stuff.

Now how to determine which ones were created specifically for Warren. hm

@The Lions Den and @wombat dropping knowledge and providing supporting docs! (worship)

All of Frazettas work on Warren magazines were painted for Warren only, they were not prints meant for something else.

You would think they would get classic cover designations, and hopefully the comic gods at CGC will see the light some day.

Amazing that these books can still be had at reasonable prices. I just picked up a few stunners from Father Dowling that I will be posting up here shortly.

The stories and art are by far superior to their comic book cousins, hopefully they stay reasonable until I have completed all my Warren runs.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t  Vampirella 31 the first Frazetta piece that was used for a Warren cover that wasn’t an original commission?

Vampirella 31

This issue was publicized as Frank Frazetta's return to Warren, although in actuality it was simply a reprinting of a cover that had been used for the movie "Luana", which is adapted inside. I've seen images on the web before of what was supposedly the original cover for this issue (see below), which is by Enrich and features Vampi by the Eiffel Tower. For whatever reason that cover was never used, although Vampi's face from that cover was used in the top left hand corner of the cover for Vampi's portrait for the next half a dozen issues or so starting with issue 32.

The TwoMorrows web site still has print copies of Back Issue #63 if you're not committed to finding it in the wild.

Thanks to OtherEric, I did as he said and ordered direct, I was in no hurry so ordered surface mail, took just over a month and was very reasonable, anyone remotely interested in the history of Marvel UK should buy this mag, a great read, and the quad poster looks even better in colour.
