With all the disputes going on in the forum lately

Do we need an Ombudsman.

Someone who can look at both sides of a dispute and make a judgment that is binding.

This would be a voted on position with a one year term.

The problem you'll have is with the 'binding' part. There is no way to 'bind' anyone to another's judgment. Though I may be wrong - law versed fellows can chew me a new one if so. :D

I've heard that if you feed them a diet of bread and water, it binds them pretty well....,

This place polices its disputes pretty well as it is.

I also agree with this...I think it would be almost impossible to find a truly neutral party amongst all of us...too many instances of personal/social relationships, business relationships, and gossip flying around for that. I would think you would literally have to hire an outside party. For now, I still find myself leaning in the keep resolution dispute as it is direction...

Most folks here are grown-ups, with a few notable exceptions, so they should be able to resolve issues themselves. We've tried having elected/appointed roles around here in the past and that wasn't exactly a rousing success.

Watching them unfold tells a lot about the players and that can be useful information going forward

Can we start with a debate over whether your first sentence needs a question mark?

Seriously I don't think it will go over well. Too many chiefs and not enough Indians. It usually takes a group of people to push something through. One person just won't have any sway if somebody is convinced that they're right.

"Excuse me sir. Seeing as how the VP is such a VIP, shouldn't we keep the PC on the QT, because if it leaks to the VC, you could end up an MIA, and then we'd all be put on KP."

We have some people here who can make binding judgments. They're called Arch and Dena. Other than that, the people here seem to be pretty good at resolving disputes. It may take a week or two, but it gets done.
