Considering the drop-off in sales...the Readerless Age?

That was true earlier in the 2000s but the numbers are actually better now by tens of thousands. GRANTED, most of those increased readers are buying more graphic novels than new issues but still, we're actually an improved number of sales.

For this period, Digital Age might work well. You have both actual digital comics as well as the rise of digital art replace much of the previous modes of creating comics--and clearly, there is a noticeable difference in the end result.

It has to be broken up now as if you think about it, the modern age is about 20 years old , much longer than golden, atomic, silver or bronze ages were. I say

the Speculator age 1990 till Marvel goes bankrupt(1996-1997).

the Dark Age 1997 till about 2001(comics low print runs)

the Movies/CGC age 2002 till 2009(CGC and Hollywood pump new life into hobby)

the Digital Age upcoming? Ipad/PS3/psp and internet.

hm

any thoughts?

Just curious to hear opinions on what our current modern age of comics will be called in 20 years when a new modern age takes it's place.

Sorry, but anyone believing paper comics will be around in 20 years is dreaming.

Can we even call the stuff they make most comics out of nowadays "paper"?

Here's what I think.

Copper Age (1980ish-1992) - Just a bunch of random stories introduction of several small characters (many of which never made it because they're all rip-offs) aka Beta Ray Bill, Dazzler) and a few significant ones (War Machine, Deadpool)

Chromium Age (1993-2000) - Gimmicks

Modern Age (2001-2006ish)

Digital Age (2007-present)

I say, bring back newsprint and hand drawn/lettered comics! Keep the costs down and the hobby going.
