foxing = mildew/mold
No its not! Its basically rust. It is the reaction of humidity with the trace elements of iron in the paper. The term foxing is derived from the Iron II oxide AKA Ferrous OXide

doh!

No it's not.

basically the same thing, whether technically correct or not.

It is a reaction between moisture and paper. Depends on the content of the paper (whether the paper has a lot of iron, or if it has a high acid content), but like mildew, it is generally fungal in nature.

I haven't read much on it but what I did read on these forums (written by people who would know) is that people cannot agree on what it is exactly.

Where did you get your info from?

edit: Just read this on wiki:

The causes of foxing are not well understood. One theory is that foxing is caused by a fungal growth on the paper. Another theory is that foxing is caused by the effect on certain papers of the oxidation of iron, copper, or other substances in the pulp or rag from which the paper was made. It is possible that multiple factors are involved.

I bought the Swamp Thing #1 and the Creatures on the Loose

and I was happy with my purchase.

I know it was no where near the listed grade and made a lower offer to what I thought

it really was.

I graded the Swamp thing out at a perfectly centered 9.2/OW-W and paid $140

and the Creatures was around a 9.4/OW.

I am happy.

I Pm'd an offer on Swampy #1, after hearing about the over grading, I was happy you beat me to it. The disappointed feeling has returned. Congrats on the fair purchases!

Since it is a fungus or caused by a fungus, I just refer to it as mold. :)

Wiki is your friend:

It was the 'mold' bit that got me :ohnoez:

That's what I kept telling my friends after my regular visits to the campus clinic back in college.

Well Paypal found in my favor, he never responded to the paypal claim.

So you got a refund from Paypal, and you still have the book?

Maybe a good candidate for the Pierce donation thread... just a thought. :)
