Registry Set Polls

208 posts in this topic

I'd be surprised if anyone gave a flip about sets in the registry. It's really just noobs with a couple of posts and the same old people requesting things in the registry. Besides, Gemma gets old sets updated within a couple days of asking and finished he last list of new sets in about a month. There's not much of a backlog anymore.

I think it shouldn't matter how many people want a set to exist. Like cheetah pointed out, there are PLENTY of sets with only one participant. That doesn't mean just because myself and a few other members who collect the genre would be the only ones who use it, the set shouldn't be made. That's just exclusion from the Registry because other members think something else is more important since they collect it.

Why do people even care which sets are there (as long as they meet the criteria) if they won't use them anyway?

I have a question... what is the board's definition of a vanity set?

By definition, couldn't virtually all sets in the registry, which aren't 'pure' numbered, single-title series or mini-series, be considered 'vanity sets'?

(Don't see anything negative about this by the way, just thought the simpler and less prone to interpretation the definition the better)

I just watched the slideshow of your Turok set.....

Outstanding !! :applause:

Other sets for those that collect Adams genres rather than all DC/Marvel that would make nice registry sets:

Horror (House of Mystery / Secrets / Unexpected / Phantom Stranger, etc...)

Batman (Detective / Batman / Brave and the Bold, Justice League?, World's Finest?)

Superman ( Action / Superman / Superboy, Justice League?, World's Finest?)

Superman's friends ( Lois Lane / Jimmy Olsen)

All non-marvel / DCs covers

Continuity / PC comics

Modern set

I would think the Batman set would get the most action in the registry, as those are the most popular. Logical choice for a set. Other suggestions? (thumbs u

Neal Adams has done a lot of covers for DC and I agree that a single set would be nearly impossible to complete. However I beleive that there should be no more then 3 sets.

Batman (Batman, Detective, Brave and the Bold, World's Finest that he is on the cover)

Superman (Superman, Action, Superboy, Adventure, Superman Family, Jimmy Olsen, Lois Lane and World's Finest)

All others (Flash, Green Lantern (other than 76-89), JLA, House of Secrets, House of Mystery, Strange Adventures, etc).

Each set would contain 100 or more books.

Even though the Neal Adams full set has a high vote count, would everyone prefer more of a breakdown as indicated above? I'll hold off on listing the full set as approved just yet, but either way there will be at least one Neal Adams set upcoming...

Aren't there Canadian editions for all the marvel CA books? I'm assuming this one will be expanded as new issues are identified.

As far as I know, these are all the graded price variants. I don't see how this one deserves to be a set any less than the 35 cent price variants.

You're kidding, right?

This set that you're proposing contains about 35 books that have been chosen based purely on the fact that they have a graded copy in the CGC census. It's not a complete set and there's no logic behind the books included which, once again, makes it a straight-up vanity set that's geared towards a single & very specific collecting focus.

I believe all the voting choices are based on a vanity set. Most have nothing to do with the other. The Dave Stevens one to me seems ridiculous and I love Stevens. But if a Dave Stevens set is allowed then every artist or writer could in fact have a set if someone lobbied for it.

Sorry if that upsets anyone, but just doesn't make sense in the scheme of things compared to how registry sets have been comprised...

Maybe we can get a set of Jughead covers where he has a burger in his hand (digs through boxes of books for high grade copies) :insane:

-1 I think the Neal Adams and Dave Stevens sets are awesome - for two reasons. First, it will be a set that will (hopefully) be a comprehensive list of all the artists work, and that will be a valuable resource for collectors. Second there is an established base of collectors that collect these books for no other reason than that they have covers by Dave Stevens - not for the stories themselves.

So to say the books have nothing to do with one another is another way of actually making, rather than arguing against, the point of these sets - namely that, but for the making of the set, it would be impossible to categorize and display these books within the Registry. I think participation on both will be robust.

I apologize to my overlord JJ for disagreeing with him, and expect to receive my punishment post-haste.
