Registry Set Polls

Neal Adams.com doesn't list the cover as his.

No, but they could have overlooked it. I'm sure Neal doesn't even remember all the covers he may have had a hand in. I wish there was a definitive resource for identifying his work, but sadly...

And Neal is the first to admit it, but his sons have done a lot of homework to ensure the index on his web site is up to date. At one time his previous index included other books that he was credited with doing that he pointed out that it wasn't.

When I look at the cover of # 80 I take a close look at the faces and to me it isn't anything like the faces on the later Avengers covers.

Like I said before, it will be up to us collectors to decide to finish the set or leave off the ones we don't like.

This set is going to be tough for any collector to complete so I am really looking forward to the sub-sets.

Bert

It will happen.

I confirmed with the graders (and a Neal Adams collector) that that cover is Neal's work, so I plan on leaving it for the time being.

Any custom sets that were "voted" to be added by the polls are listed in the new sets thread I created this week. Any that did not make the vote are still up for consideration but won't be included until the current list is complete and will be subject to re-voting at that time.

So the foreign sets, if not voted in a second time, will not be added, assuming the custom sets are a possibility?

Gemma, thank you checking on Avengers # 80. I need to stop bugging you about this and let you get on with you work.

On a different note, I noticed that the Dave Stevens cover set is up and filling up. Have you received any feedback on this set?

So keep up with the excellant work that your are doing and have a great weekend.

Bert, the rapid response to this registry set within only the first week was probably feedback enough it was definitely of high collecting interest.

If you are going to make a set by artist, at least one set most be all encompassing of their work (really thinking of cover art/story here). The registry should begin as an almanac then branch off into a vanity/sub sets.

Correction on the definition of vanity:

vanity - excessive pride in one's appearance, qualities, abilities, achievements, etc.; character or quality of being vain; conceit:

So literally unless you are collecting NG-~3.0 grade sets that are incomplete and that you do NOT ever intend put in the registry; then your set is in vain. And since this type of holistic customer is of not much revenue to CGC, since they would not be vain enough in the first place to seal their paper in plastic after paying someone to semi-arbitrarily assign a grade level. Lets not entirely shoot down each others set ideas - we'll just let Gemma prioritize them accordingly. :foryou:

Now that aside, most of us here are competitive (vain), so full flexibility should be allowed as long as the set title, etc, is logical and correct. No, "0000AAAA" set titles to get to the front of the registry list, etc. Perhaps even make a sub-set registry category so we don't dilute the continuous numerical run sets - or even pull out the numerical runs from the current system since they have already become polluted with sub-sets (McFarlane's ASM's, partial x-men run's, etc).

Now that I'm done ranting I would like to have a Michael Turner set built. :wishluck:

But since I'm extra vain I would like it to be a Turner Signature Series set (I even made copies of the CGC census a few months after he passed on for all of the civil war set so that I would know the WCS for the possible Turner Census, and when I acquire a new SS book of his, I record the book's census into excel so that the rarity of his signature for a particular comic is as "true" as possible.) I know this is a pretty big set so don't worry Gemma, we don't have to build it today ;)

Good luck all.

There isn't a way to make a set that will only take Signature Series label books so I could only do a set of all the books Michael Turner had worked on and you could use it to only register Signature Series comics if you choose.

Hey Gemma,

I think the 1st Appearance sets are a great idea! I noticed the "Marvel Copper Era 1st Appearances Set was created..... I'm wondering if it is possible, or worth while to look into completing a couple of sets for this idea....?

As a Marvel fan, I'll be specific, but I'm sure this would apply to DC as well...

Marvel 1st Appearances Golden Era

Marvel 1st Appearances Sivler Era

Marvel 1st Appearances Modern Era

Marvel 1st Appearances Complete Set (Include All Era's)

I, myself, have started collecting "Women of Marvel 1st Appearances" and it would be nice to eventually be able to include them in one set. (like a 1st Appearance Complete Set) -

Anyways, I'm working on a list and will forward - this would probably be something that could be added to over time....Work in progress...

Thanks again!
