Yet again...it seems this thread has become a little too DC centric. Jim

Hey now, I joined these boards as somewhat of a Marvel Zombie, then YOU GUYS go ahead and brainwash me into becoming a DC guy, so I'm gonna derail this right now and get back on track with yet another Wondercon pickup:

I bought this one from Heroes from their 50% off box. It was on their wall Friday and Saturday at full price but then put in the box Sunday where I picked it up.

after viewing much of the marvel covers (and owning wwbn and tod runs), there seems to be good reason why the thread is dc-centric. simply put, the dc covers are on a 'higher level' than the marvel covers (imho). but certainly, any horror cover is pretty cool!!!!

nice unexpected pick up!

there is a witching hour with a similar cover, ancient guy in a wheel chair...something wicked at the door...

Witching Hour 10, which is another great cover. gossip.gif

Yet again...it seems this thread has become a little too DC centric. So some nice horror Marvels that arrived in the mail today to take a gander at. And some that haven't been posted in quite some time...

Journey into Mystery #2 One of the best Gil Kane covers of the Bronze Age in my opinion. thumbsup2.gif

I agree! I love that cover. Took QUITE A WHILE for me to find a near mint copy. Here's another great Marvel Bronze horror cover -- this one by Steranko:

FYI

I'm not saying this means anything, but from what I remember this is the first time that Bronze DC Horror has made it into the Wizard price guide. I just received the new issue in the mail and there are a few prices listed for Bronze HoM and HoS, but no other Bronze DC horror titles.

Selected issues and NM prices (no other Bronze issues listed in Wizard but these):

HoM

174 $75

175 $50

178 $55

179 $75

HoS

81 $80

92 $700

The prices listed don't really mean anything to me, but just the fact that these titles were mentioned at all in Wizard shows me that maybe we are finally starting to get a little bit of attention from the mainstream as that is most certainly who Wizard caters to.

They used to be in Wizard but were pushed out years ago in favor of the hottest titles when the guide was de-emphasized with less pages and ever shrinking typeface.

In fact, either I'm getting old or the type is getting too small because I have to have pretty good light to read the guide at all these days... Christo_pull_hair.gif

Sid! You read Wizard!???! 27_laughing.gif

You faddish fanboy! grin.gif (Just Kidding!)

Frankly, I could care less if horror gets "respect" from the mainstream, and I don't need Wizard to tell me if horror is "cool" this month.

Oh I don't need Wizard to tell me anything. I was just pointing out for those interested in values that when the mainstream catches on, prices rise. I buy zero Modern books but I have subscribed to Wizard for the last ten years or so just to stay in tune with what's going on in comics today. Plus they do keep you informed about upcoming comic-related movies and other new projects and products. Certainly worth the $2 a month subscription price.
