I missed the loisandclark auction on that SOHH. The last one I bought from him turned out to be a CGC 9.6

 

I tend to bid at a grade lower than I expect when dealing with him. This just reinforces the fact that NOBODY grades consistently.

Great cover to 97. I bought almost all of the last 50 issues today, but they didn't have a 97. Yours for sale? Gotta love Loisandclark. I have only been unhappy with them once in about 50 purchases. Mine should be a 9.4?

 

It will be for sale as soon as I upgrade to a 9.6 or better. The SOHH #5 looks like a 9.4...the crease in the URC is my only concern--but I've seen 9.4s with similar defects. I do see what appears to be color breaking crease near the bottom under the shadow of the rightmost eye of the pumpkin--if that is not an illusion you may have a 9.2.

 

If I'm not mistaken, #97 is a "key" of sorts since it is the first Spectre appearance in the Ghosts series. Being a Jim Aparo cover doesn't hurt either. Doug Sulipa had a #97 a while ago but someone else jumped on it. His Manitoba books have pretty much been picked clean.

The crease under the eye is a scanner artifact. I was more concerned with the bottom edge which is a tad rough but not too bad. I'll report back in a month when it gets back from CGC.

Yeah, that may well put you in 9.2 territory. Damn nice book though, and tough to find (Anything #2-#14).

 

 

Make it two months! I have a "20 day" Express (Collector's Society) that is 2.5 weeks late.

OK, I'm finally gonna post after lurking since this thread started.

 

I'm not a horror collector really, but have been intent on re-acquiring some DC's I had before truly becoming a collector in '76. I was lucky enough to win a few auctions from JS Comics tonight, and was surprised that the competition wasn't stronger. I won a HoM 237 for 15.50 and a HoS 124 for 18.27. Did I overpay? I don't have the current guide, but know they were $10 two years ago in 9.4 (and always undervalued in HG, in my mind). I also know there are 2 copies of each in the census. Why so little interest in HG copies. I always loved the 237 especially--the cover creeped me out, and the colors on it seemed pretty bizarre. Are they more common than I thought in grade?

Hey, I realize that you can get anything when buying off ebay, but between their track record and rep, and the scans, I felt comfortable bidding on these. I've received a ton of books from them that are dead-on, and the few that haven't been weren't so far off that they're worth returning.

I have been happy with J&S. I have returned a few books, but it has always been easy and with no hastles. If they have something I want, I don't hesitate to bid my max. -John
