Metropolis' copy from about a decade ago, when it was "only" $165,000

I think most of the copies that have not been locked away in collections for the last 20+ years have been Metropolis copies at some point. They seam to be able to get this book on a frequent basis.

I do agree that Metro certainly gets their fair share of many gems, but "frequent" and "Action 1" is a huge oxymoron.

You mean nearly a dozen copies in a year is not considered frequent?

lol

It was nice of you to set up this account just to inform us of this. Thank you so much.
it was also a 5.5 back then, but I believe was a straight resub to 6.5, if I recall... might have been pressed, but I don't think I recall peter telling me one way or another hm
I believe it was a straight resub. It was clearly undergraded the first time around.

It used to be the White Rose 5.5 copy. I don`t believe Peter won it off Heritage, nor do I believe he was the one who resubbed it. For that matter, I`m not sure he was aware when he bought it whether it had been resubbed or whether it had been pressed. Those weren`t questions that were typically asked in those more innocent old-label days, and he may not have cared in any event.

Do you guys have any insight into who won it off Heritage and sold it to Peter, and what, if anything, was done with the book besides being resubbed?

Anyways, I`m glad Peter got a good price for his book, but I`m sad that the most passionate advocate of Action 1 (pre-MM) has sold his copy. I hope it`s not because of financial problems or anything.

IIRC, Peter knew that it was the 5.5 that had been in the Heritage Auction. He was confident of the current 6.5 grade and it didn't bother him that it had been previously graded differently.

The original purchaser from Heritage was the Dentist. Peter was aware that it was the same copy, Heritage sold as a 5.5 (in fact, when it sold through Heritage there was a long thread where many, including myself, thought the book was undergraded based on the Heritage scans). Peter was told the upgrade was due to a straight resub, but I am sure people can scrutinize the then and now scans to come to their own conclusions.

Great info as always, Sean. Thanks.

Interesting that it was the Dentist that won it off Heritage. Truly the rich do get richer.

this thread is as good a place as any to reiterate a quote, only formed recently, i now have in my sigline:

"The true value of the first appearance of Superman should not be valued in terms of 'money', but should be valued as an historical moment in humanities imagination."

priceless! (almost :shy: )

it was not due to any financial problems at all...it was just time...

sometimes wives get us husbands to sell things we either don't want to or don't need to, but kind of "have" to, if you know what I mean!

Thank god for mothers, otherwise there would be tons of mint condition vintage comics in existence today, and thank god for wives, otherwise comics would never change hands.

being the boss is "great", but having "happy" workers is better sometimes lol
