Captain America a "bomb" over seas

89 posts in this topic

Gone are the days of the 800 million dollar movies, with the economy, internet etc. Captain America just does'nt bode well in Europe, not a surprise really.

??? Harry potter and transformers 3 are billion dollar movies worldwide.

Transformers 3? :tonofbricks:

Transormers 3 was decent, as for pirates 4, now that's a billion dollar turd.

Pirates 3 was so bad to me, I just cannot spend the money to see 4. I'll rent it on DVD when it comes out...RedBox no less.

Although, I did not like the first 2 TF movies. Transformers 3 wasn't perfect but it was the best of the three movies. The wife and I enjoyed it.

The wife and I went to see it last night and we both enjoyed it, there was only about 30 people in the cinema watching it. I don't know what it costs to go to the cinema in the states, but it is not a cheap night out in England any more, and I think that goes for the rest of Europe, maybe it is just a reflection of the effed up economy. (shrug)

Yeah...I totally agree...that figure is TOTALLY misleading...The Cap movie has yet to roll into MANY countries....The Overseas market is strange, the release dates are all over the place and for whatever reason, they chose to open it at different times all around the markets...plus, for some countries...the actual figures are sometimes slower to get in....you would be shocked at some of the jumps the money totals will take..

Some examples where the Cap movie has YET to open in..

Finland

France

Germany

Greece

Hong Kong

Hungary

India

Indonesia

Israel

Poland

Portugal

Romania

Spain

Sweden

Switzerland

Turkey

Ukraine

United Arab Emirates

South Africa

Norway

Japan

Cyprus

Czech Republic

Denmark

Austria

Belgium

VERY big markets....

Portugal is a small market (we're a small country) lol

France was a HUGE part of the foreign release for Iron Man 2. So was Japan.

Compared to the countries that ARE traditionally a large part of the foreign gross, this movie will clearly not do as well.

For instance, Iron Man 2 did 30.5 million in the UK while CA is doing 4.9 million so far.

South Korea did 27 million vs 2.5 million so far.

Captain America so far:

Iron Man 2 foreign box office.

Well, that actually does't surprise me. I loved it, but then again, I'm American. I love to see a guy in an American flag whoop . If you're French, it might not hold the same significance.

Your right.

It should hold more

Without American soldiers giving their lives on French soil, the French flag would look markedly different today.

Without the French help, American flag would still be Union Jack.

And by the way, Capt. America has not yet been released in France, so keep your ignorant comments to yourself.

Nice post newbie..don't like my viewpoint so silence it? You'll fit in well here.

There was nothing hostile in my original post that demanded your response.

Stay classy.

Traditionally movies get between 50-60% of it's gross overseas. Captain America is not playing in all ports of call and i s not doing very very well.

$76,732,487 36.4% of the total is Foreign. Don't count on the good Captain to be the blockbuster like Iron Man, Batman, or X-men. hm

FFF is right. Nothing hostile in his thread. He could have said, If you're Russian, it might not..." and his point would have been the same.

But that point is only ever made, and is repeatedly made about the French. America came through for them once upon a time and they owe us forever. They might as well change their flag to a bald eagle ting on the Eiffel tower, then maybe they can be forgiven for existing.

Right before I plop down my $10 to see a movie I always think, "Hey! What % of walls broken down of the twentieth centuries obstacles in a thousand different categories did the country of origin for this movie have a part in?"
