The "Official Proof you were a Comic Fan Prior to 1979" thread!

117 posts in this topic

ok here we go: My very FIRST comic book! Iron Man #98 May 1977. My Mom bought it for me it at the local drug store. The store isn't there any more unfortunately but the comic ended up starting a lifelong obsession for me. Note that I wrote my name at the bottom of the first page so no one would steal it at school. lol

I have a birth certificate that guarantees I was not a comic fan prior to 1979.

Young punk! lol

You = :preach:lol

Born is 79... the oldest OO comic in my collection is 1994.

somebody's gotta love moderns...

(thumbs u

That's were the memories are for me... I love the early to mid 90s Marvel.

Pollybagged covers! Pirsm Covers! Die-Cut Covers! :cloud9:

and that's cool, collect what you want...

It's just new books being release today remind me of those 90's books...

Instead of the wild production variants we get low print run variants

and Instead of hot artists to move a book it is a hot controversial topic

after another.

Not to say these are 100% bad things and again collect what you want,

but there was a crash in the 90's so you would thing the concept of consistent solid art

and consistent solid story would be the lesson learned...

I used to have hundreds of 90's books but have learned to whittle down to the books

I really want and majority of those are the wacky over produced die cut, embossed,

glow in the dark, foil gate fold covers with a scratch and sniff hologram.

I can prove it, I remember the bicentennial and cb radios!

My CB radio handle was "Silver Surfer!"

Mine was God of Thunder

Every kid wanted to be a trucker in the 70's because of this movie...

If you weren't on drugs in the 70's you were bored as hell!

I remember when the Green Goblin was dead.

When Peter Parker wasn't married the first time.

When Superman wasn't married the first time.

Before Wolverine was a mote in somebody's eye.

Before comic book movies existed.

Buying Spider-Man 121, 122 and 129 from the spinner rack.

Getting Batman 251 and a Slurpee at 7-11.

Seeing Giant Size X-Men 1 on the stands and passing it up for a 100 page issue of Superman Family. :insane:

That movie was so cool to me I begged the tightwad old man to let me go again and I sneaked a

tape recorder into it.

I would play back the cool scenes with my Mego Supes in hand.

It's kind of a trip, but even with today's superhero movies that display over the top level of special effects

I've never had this feel good piece of movie magic that I found in this scene alone.
