at what point do people expect to pick up 9.9's for modern comics?

9.8 seems to be fairly common

The problem with that line of thinking is that there are plenty of books where the whole run may be 9.6/9.8, but may not yield a single 9.9.

Is there something going on with Spawn that I don't know about?

First, I see a copy of Spawn 1 go for $8 at Heroescon, and now I see this 13 issue lot going for $22 with time left. Or is this a couple of shills?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-IMAGE-COMICS-FIRST-THIRTEEN-LOT-SPAWN-1-13-/180929717078?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item2a20406356#ht_500wt_1287

could be shill bidding, but am i wrong in thinking that $22 for 13 issues (even if it's spawn) isn't a whole lot of money? if you're looking to start a run, that seems like a good price to get those at.

13 issues that can typically be snagged at $1 or less? That, and the number of bids just seem odd. Probably a shill.

#1 isn't really a dollar book. I suppose it is convenient for someone to get them all.at once.

I actually could have picked up 20+ copies of #1, for $1 each, this past weekend. Instead, I skipped out on those, and grabbed 2 copies of New X-Men #128 for $1 each.

i have never seen a NM copy of Spawn 1 in a dollar box. $2 box, yes, but never in a dollar box and I spend a lot of time dollar box diving. not saying they are not out there, just haven't seen one.

Plenty for me. I've even seen them in .50 boxes. Hell, I've left them for $1 (but I wouldnt now)!!

I've always had too nasty a taste in my mouth from memories of Spawn and titles like it wrecking the industry in the 90's to purchase another copy of that book for the return on investment. In other words, I'd rather not see a Spawn book again in my entire life and not make a few bucks to keep me from forming a stress induced stomach ulcer. lol I heard the series got better and that at one point there was a good writer on the title, but I wasn't collecting at that point. Must say that the WD swipe is freaking amazingly cool.

Adding my 2c

I also noticed the same picks that Catwoman showed so I won't talk about them, instead I'll talk about some others that I've noticed from my website, The Market, that have surprised me.

  • Amazing Spider-Man #430 still hot at around $15-$20+
  • Kick- #1 is heating back up.
  • Uncanny X-Force #4. wtf? This book is hotter than the first few issues. I'm not sure why.
  • X-O Manowar #1 (1992) early Valiant's are still on the rise.
  • Batman: The Killing Joke is suddenly doing well.
  • Star Trek & Dr. Who #1 covers are doing extremely well in the $10+ realm.
  • Captain America #14 is 1st appearance of Winter Solider
  • Harbinger #1 is again representing Valiant's rebirth.
  • Solar #10 touted by some to be the start of all the variants in the 90's
  • Chew #1 2nd print is getting somewhere in the $40 range! :o

Uncanny X-Force #4 has been the hottest book in the run for quite some time now. (excluding a couple variants like the 1 per store #1 party variant) - after issues 1-3 print runs got cut dramatically - as they basically didn't think anyone liked it/wasn't ordered well. there might be more to it that I'm not aware of, but i anyone could reference approximate print runs - might help out - its just what I've always heard/been told

Is Uncanny X-Force #4 in fact the first appearance of : Evan Sabahnur? ( Kid Apocalypse?)

Ok, I KNOW it is..

Distribution & print quality issues also make this book killer.

Not to mention rumored Apocalypse Now ongoing.

Nah. Here are the sales figures from Comichron:

#2 = 56k

#3 = 55k

#4 = 51k

#5 = 51k

#6 = 51k

There was a Diamond allocation issue with Uncanny X-force #4. I forget the situation.

Ton of damages too. East coast shops were spared ( at least NE )

I just called my rep to get the skinny, but it was feast or famine from day one.

ShopS got them or they didn't. Print run means nothing, if books are trashed in transit.

Solar #10 touted by some to be the start of all the variants in the 90's

Solar 10 didn't have any variants, just a second print that was never highly sought after.

(shrug)

I didn't say it was a variant. But the black cover at the time was something unique which was followed very quickly by die-cut covers, different color covers, limited edition covers ect. so Solar 10 wasn't a variant in and of itself but was maybe a catalyst to start the whole thing back in the 90's.

.. Well according to some discussions I've read.

Someone page Valiantman and see if he can help clear this up or let me know if I'm just puffing out smoke.

that makes a lot more sense then. I remember when I first looked around I couldn't find any proof of lower print runs and saw similar numbers to what was posted above. trashed/damaged copies makes sense.

a lot of the dark angel saga issues have been holding a decent/steady price for a while now also and seem to be in steady demand we just completed our run (minus a few variants) last week and am glad to have finally caught up on the series!

Another thing about uncanny x force 4 lies in the fact that there was a marvel must haves issue that reprinted the first three issues, but not the 4th issue. I thought that once the tpb came out that prices on this book would settle, but they never have.

Kid apocalypse is still in the series and there was an image of him in the entire apocalypse garb tweeted earlier this week that got removed. Other than Walking Dead its probably the best book I'm reading right now.
