agreed, i usually get questioned when even buying two. I bought two revivals for cover at an LCS about a month after it came out.

guy says, "these worth anything?"

when I bought them out of panzerfaust just before the recent spike

"how come so many copies?"

i answered truthfully, "trying to put together a couple of runs, and I want to submit some to cgc, and have choice to choose which ones i sub"

I agree that what they did is not nice, but it is their store, and their product. Its the opportunism that is ignorant. Either know your own stock, or just have a store wide policy.

Don't only have a policy if the book got away from you. I hate it when stores use their customers as research agents.

I go in there plenty, and spend $50+ every time.

Obviously, that's not going to happen anymore.

I had a similar experience a few months ago with a store I use to buy Pokemon cards from when I was 12. "I don't give a ef you only buy whats hot" was definitely yelled at me.

You just have to be careful when you are speculating because you don't want to tread in too much water.

I guess alot of smaller stores are fine with losing customers for a couple of hundred bucks or less.

I really need to vent a LCS story.

I was a store with a couple of friends yesterday, and bought 2 copies of Mind MGMT #1 based on a couple of posts I saw on this thread. Later I saw that the book was selling for alot more, so I went back to try and get the remaining copies of it from the store. A family member suggested coming with me, but I told them no since I had no problem getting 2 copies yesterday.

Of course, when I got to the store, and tried to get the 4 copies, the store worker started to look at the books, and get suspicious. One of the employees literally went on eBay RIGHT IN FRONT ME (the screen was facing me), and looked up the book, and whispered to the guy that the book is now a $60 book, which of course I heard. He then told me that the store has a limit of 1 copy on new books, which is apparently a policy that was implemented less than 24 hours ago, because I bought 2 copies of the book yesterday. I told him I drove 30 mins to get there and need to get at least 2 copies (1 more for me, 1 for my friend) and would even pay alittle over cover, since I just wanted to make it worth the trip. He then started saying that there are people with pull lists that will need this book. Apparently the people with pull lists must be really good customers if they put 6+ month old books in their boxes. The guy then acted like he was doing me a favor selling me 1 copy at cover, and told me that they never charge over cover for newer books. Meanwhile, they have books that are barely 2 months old for way over cover price sitting right next to the register. Of course, he looked like a complete insufficiently_thoughtful_person the entire time, but I chose to just take the 1 book and leave.

And here is their item up on eBay now thanks to my apparent tip.

I know its my fault for not getting all of the books yesterday, but the fact that these people were lying and making up policies makes me furious.

I can understand you being disappointed. But furious? They're not obliged to sell you anything... and you got 3 books.

Some stores will turn around and pull this on you.. If im going into certain stores for hot issues only I try to spend as much money as I can on multiple titles so they cant say anything

My main store doesnt care if I clean them out and I always get there at 1110 on wed.. He let me take every shelved item of Nowhere Men everytime recently. And they always ask if I want the rest of a certain back issue - hit me up and offered all the old sagas so he could move them in one sale. And my pull list usually has quantity on it anyway - got 10 copies of some series on my pull lists and they still allow me to take as many as I want on shelves..

I like the idea of first come first serve tbh... Its not like were buying every single series anyway and most indie books dont hit radars till after its blown up usually anyway

I'm sure alot of people would be furious if they were in my shoes.

I think that unless there is a policy in the store that would have stopped me from buying the 3 remaining copies, then he was basically obliged to sell me the books. Otherwise, its a terrible business practice, and I'm sure most people who own a business agree. Its not my fault that he didn't do his research on the book.

When I first got here I sold a comic for $85, and had someone else offer me almost 10 times that before I shipped the book to the other person, but I didn't make up an excuse not to sell the first person the book, because that's bad business.

Selling online is different than owning a shop.. They have more of a need to make sure issues make it to more than one person anyway.

Youre getting mad over something he has the right to reject you on.. At least you got one

But I agree first come first serve should be something every store follows

I know what you mean man..

I have some secondary shops were only certain clerks dont care about multiple copies. The other guys working will pull some bull mess about 1 per customer even on older issues like mind mgmt but when I go in the next day for another clerk he doesnt care if I take 10

Im just happy I can afford to spend money on books I think are decent when they first came out - ie I bought 4 mind mgmt #1 last year and now its paid off ha

Am I spoiled with having 5 Good LCS within a 30 minute driving distance?

Do you guys all live in a one horse town?

Maybe thats why I don't get mad when one store hates on my swaggar.

Im in the same swaggar boat..

5+ stores around the metro atlanta area and half of them have less than 30 customers it seems... Easy pickings

Todd, its a mini, well respected boardies seem to be quietly buying these. Discuss, rumors it might de-mini? What's the deal?

For the record, I bought one the other day for sub-cover, while raiding a store of other stuff, just cause people seemed interested in it....

My horse lives in the next town over... I have to call the horses to me (enough horse talk)
