Cover Recreation Advice

15 posts in this topic

I'm toying with the idea of getting a cover recreation done and I'm curious which artists out there excel at this sort of thing. Who are the best in terms of price, speed, quality, and reliability?

Looking forward to your suggestions. Also, posting examples wouldn't hurt. :baiting:

Depends on the cover you're wanting redone. One artists style may be better suited than another. And is it astraight recreation or getting 'tweaked' in any way :baiting:

Definitely a "tweaked recreation." Style would be either classic silver age or slightly cartoony style.

Well, IMO if you're looking for someone who seems to be an ace at recreating another artist's style, you can't go wrong with Anthony Castrillo:

My biggest commission from him is my INFINITY GAUNTLET 1 redo:

He can sometimes be a little slow, but we're talking a few weeks rather than something longer. I can't speak whether or not he would cotton to a half-now/half-upon-completion deal. You can only ask?

You should also think about if you want any logos/word balloons/text boxes drawn by the artist, or paste-ons like they did in the old days. I do my own paste-ups, and I think they come out very slick:

Nice stuff there. I will definitely consider this.

Thanks!

I like the work done by Tom Cook though I've never bought from him we did have a nice e-mail chat. Check out his site here: http://www.comicrecreations.com/

You might also talk to Thom Zahler of Love and Capes. He's fast and reasonable. His L&C style is cartoony - www.loveandcapes.com - though that can vary.

I can also second Mike DeCarlo. Fast and reasonable; he too can vary his style.

I don't think Anthony is taking any commissions for the next little while, if ever again. He mentioned they have been too time consuming. I hope that helps.
