and you actually picked out one of the better pages in that book.

 

Kolins's art from the 90s was different from most others, but it was still of passable quality. Either he needs a different inker or maybe his hands are already broken.

In the last panel... his cheek isn't really shaped like that, right?

(It looks like he has a rectangular ear attached to his jaw.)

(Surely those arrows didn't suddenly jump IN FRONT of his face.) insane.gif

Unfortunately, it's no worse than most of the artwork that's coming out these days. The state of artwork in the industry is so bad these days that many artists considered to be "stars" today would have been labeled as decidedly second-rate or worse in another day and age (names withheld to avoid starting a flame war by fans of these artists).

Ya know, I'm all in favor of stylistic art. Oeming, Rissos, Timm -- those guys have heavy styles but at least their art is good. You can tell they can draw if they have to. This, on the other hand, is utter crapola. This is just bad art. Maybe that's just his "style".

 

I think it was Neal Adams who said, "Style is just a term people use when they don't have the talent to do it right." Sound about right in this case.

 

Kinda reminds me of Cully Hamner's work on the last few issues of the original run of Daredevil -- total garbage.

I haven;t read any modern book since 1999, when I used to puruse The Outer Limits in Waltham, MA before moving here in June to SF. But my first impulse really was - to heck with the art - what about that writing? Five panels for that? No wonder I read posts about how long it takes a modern story to come to completion.

 

But - and this is a big but - that is just my own perception. Some folks may find this fine and that is ok. As long as you have interests - you be ok!

In the second panel is that an ear on the side of Hawkeye's head or a wad of gum?

The coloring does not add to the overall artwork either IMHO!

 

I believe the colorist just recently skimmed over the book "A Color Purple" and got totally confused about its' meaning.

 

But, give me some of those green colors used on the silver age hulks....they were so deep and rich. There's nothing like great colors on a silver age book to stop you dead in your tracks.

We totally need a "This Artist Sucks" thread. Or has that been done already? How about a poll too that would be cool. I'm sick of the suckbutt artists. Just because Marvel likes 'em doesn't mean we will like them. I know it's nice to have new talent but really for some of these guys I've seen better designs in my pup's poo. 893naughty-thumb.gif
