Picked it this morning and just read it in about 8 minutes.

I didn't hate it but I wasn't excited by it at all...hardly anything happens to be excited about.

The artwork looked better in the b+w previews.

meh.

Also it looked like my store ordered equal amounts of regular and pullbox variants...I went with regular because I liked the painted cover better.

Its not the first time I've panned something that sells and is popular.

I didn't like the new 52 either.

This reads the same as that stuff.

Anyway, I'm going to wait to see issue 2 before I decide if I'll pick it up or not, but it isn't likely.

I'm interested to see Shadowman because that's my favorite old school Valiant book after XO.

If people like this more power to them. It just is not for me.

I don't think X-O Manowar #1 is the greatest book ever written/drawn, but it is the first book in the Valiant universe relaunch,

which has been promised to be a continuity-driven universe free of the decades of "stuff" associated

with the Marvel and DC universes (and relaunches and other relaunches and alternate universe relaunches).

It's a clean slate for a single cohesive Valiant universe, and each title will be a piece of the Valiant puzzle, not a stand-alone series.

That's what is most exciting about Valiant. It starts with X-O #1.

I have not sold very many to non subscribers today...a bit dissapointing actually

Valiant didn't "take off" the first time until a year after the first book. Then it wasn't possible to find the back issues.

@Shaven, in my first read, I was a little apprehensive. I wasn't overwhelmed by it, but not underwhelmed. Just... whelmed.

I've read it a couple more times since then, and the more I read it, the more I like it. Might be worth a second read through?

This is true, however...the circumstances are quite different this time around. "Valiant" is not a new concept any longer. Sales at this point should largely be based on nostalgia for 90's Valiant. And...if that's not there (at least to the extent that everyone was hoping/expecting), then this might be another uphill battle.

I could care less if it gets huge. If they can just put together a strong group of characters and story within a shared universe I'll be happy. I just hope they're not shooting to overtake marvel/dc, or have 100,000 single issue order months.
