I'd cool off the oscars... the one and only "superhero fantasy movie" that broke that barrier was LOR Return of the King

The Dark Knight won two Oscars. Not that that means anything though.

the 1989 Batman won an Oscar for art direction, Spiderman 2 also won one for visuals

Thats not a good sign if the early reviews are only at 84%.

RT percentages tend to go down as more reviews come in. The Avengers was one movie that held its ground from start to finish, but I don't recall a movie actually having the percentage of favorable reviews increase after the initial reviews were in.

Not that 84% is bad by any means, but I believe (without looking) that puts it in company with Revenge of the Sith.

or we could take reviews as an opinion and form our own by going watching it

this is my plan, as well.

oh, I plan on seeing it without a doubt but these rating are starting to

look how ASM started...

RT is rarely wrong, I can count on one hand how many review %'s off of their

site that I disagree with.

But you never know, this can be a Watchmen type (RT 63%) where the

critics just didn't get it.

Nolan’s approach is so coldly cerebral that it’s a detriment to the film’s emotional core. It’s all doom and gloom and no heart. There is no reason to care about these characters, who function more as cogs in an elaborate, chaotic machine than as real people whose souls are at stake.

Rotten Tomatoes has "Batman Begins" at 85%--I'm mostly hoping this one is as good as that one was, so the ratings being around that same level would be great.

If it stayed at 84% or above I would be thrilled.

But that's the problem - usually summer movie reviews on RT

start real strong (ironically every time when it is a big blockbuster, almost

like they are only letting fanboys preview it first or someone the movie corporation's

have "invested" in). And then things tend to taper off.

Plus it is very rare that you get a gem on the tail end of a trilogy...

Out of the great trilogies, I can only think of a few that were better

or just as good as the first two...

ROTK of the LOTR series is the best (deservingly so, it won best picture).

Toy Story 3 was GREAT, the Last Crusade was GREAT, and The Good, The Bad

and The Ugly will always be my fav of the three Clint Spaghetti's.

ROTJ wasn't bad, but the middle of movie (Ewoks) always makes me cringe...

Honorable mentions go out to: Madmax Thunder Dome, Diehard with a Vengeance, Army of Darkness and ROTS and that is about it.

I'm seeing it regardless and I always form my own opinion but I think there are many of us on the boards that would like to see this thing score super high on the Tomatometer. I'm one of them.
