Marvel Relaunch after Avengers vs X men stop me before I go over the cliff

I read this and not sure what it means:

"Speaking of AVENGERS VS. X-MEN, did you read the announcement that Marvel Comics is going to start to relaunch all of their titles, beginning in October. It now turns out that AVENGERS VS. X-MEN #1 was a vastly more important book than any of us realized, as we believe it will mark the beginning of the complete renumbering of the Marvel Universe. The 6 new Marvel #1 issues will begin shipping weekly in October with many if not all to follow, starting with Uncanny Avengers #1. We then believe that Marvel Comics will then be stopping all of their existing titles, and replacing them with new #1 issues, sometime between October and early Spring."

I thought this was to be a seperate line not the current continuity like DC52

No - they are redoing their continuity all over again. I expect numbers to be reinstated as they approach anniversary issues. They have already stated that there will be an Amazing Spider-man 700 with a shocking ending to it. I expect the title to reboot at issue 1 again and go for 49 or 99 issues until it renumbers itself in time for issue 750 or 800.

Been discussed a couple of times in the modern forum

New #1's every year it seems is all Marvel can do now. That and multiple variants for every issue. It's the reason rarely buy any moderns, they are just alienating their long term customers.

The continuity isn't being rebooted, it's just a relaunch of tiles.

Also the article is incorrect in that not every Marvel title is being relaunched, some such as X Factor aren't.

yeah, its just a renumbering from everything I've read.

At most it will be a good jumping on/off point for readers, and help Marvel compete in the comic shops to grab the newer readers who find the lower numbering appealing (thinking there's less to "get caught up on").

They've been doing this already... (They restarted Avengers, New Avengers, and Secret Avengers just a few years ago with #1s) so this is nothing new...

Its not a drastic storyline reboot, universe change like the DCnU, or like Heroes Reborn... just mostly marketing to compete with DCs success.

Maybe if people stop feeding into this carp by buying it, they will get the message.

[font:Book Antiqua]Maybe I am wrong, but I think most Marvel titles are under number 30,

they reboot, relaunch, renumber, change title, team or anything, at least every 2 years.

A couple years back the standard was relaunch when the book reach at least 100 numbers,

then 50, and now a book is lucky if it don’t get a new relaunch after 25 books...[/font]

Too true. Captain America is currently at issue 16 and will be relaunched with a #1. Just buy what you like. No point in buying books to keep a complete collection anymore.

some such as X Factor aren't.

I can see it on facebook now....

"Stryfe1000 does not like this :( "

Stryfe1000 does not read X-Factor

In fact, come October Stryfe1000 will be culling the 3 remaining Marvel books from his pull list (UXM, Daredevil, Cap)

Stryfe1000 no longer cares about Marvel Moderns as Marvel no longer care about Stryfe1000 or any long term Marvel collectors.

This constant continuity upheaval has caused Stryfe1000 to start conversing like Cal.

Stryfe1000 needs a lie down :(

Here's an interesting thought.

Between 1970 and 1979, Marvel had 146 #1 issues (And an additional 31 Giant Size ~ #1's (Been researching as am thinking about a longer term high grade CGC challenge)

10 years and 177 first issues.

These days, they are hitting that benchmark on a monthly basis.

It's pretty apparent that long term collectors are not the primary target for this. I'd hazard that their reporting is saying that sales picks up for the digital market and the new collector/parent market when the numbering is marketed toward storyline arcs.

Probably why Japanese manga is so popular in Japan. Not that collectible but easily readable and digestible by the public.
