Anyone else playing Guild Wars 2?

Absolutely, you can level 1-80 by doing strictly PvP (or crafting or PvE).

They're still rolling out features. PvP is coming soon.

Ramrodcar sounds like he's saying PvP is in it right now. hm Leveling up mostly through PvP with a little bit of PvE when I get bored would be fantastic. :headbang:

I still long for the freedom to switch seamlessly between PvP and PvE like I did in Ultima Online...a world where you're free to attack other players almost anywhere, anytime, anyhow is just fantastic. It was so much fun just standing around the bank in Ultima Online--there were pickpockets all over the place trying to steal from players, and if you were so inclined, you could play the role of a hero and try to bring some justice to them by whacking them or beating them at their own game. I loved hunting down player killers SO much in that game and long for it. :sorry: I don't expect Guild Wars to give me that type of experience as I understand that the way Ultima Online was structured pissed most players off, but leveling via compelling player versus player would be great.

Does GW2 have something equivalent to WoW's raiding experience?

I've not tried the PvP stuff yet. I was under the assumption that it wasn't working yet, but there is World vs World influence so maybe it's already live. (shrug)

As for raids, my highest character is lvl 14 and I've only played by myself, so I don't know. (shrug)

PVP is in the game now, and to clarify, you can only level with PVP via WvW, you do not get experience via structured pvp.

GW2 has dungeons but does not have "raids" per se. Dungeons are all 5 man. There are however gigantic events that you could call a raid, where it takes 20+ people to beat. The nice thing is events scale by the number of users that are present, so it gets incrementally harder the more people that are there. The one thing I've found refreshing is that the game is challenging like an RPG. Don't think because you have a group of level 40's go into a level 30 dungeon that you're going to steamroll it. You are scaled down/mobs are scaled up. That lvl 30 dungeon will still be challenging when you're level 80, and may actually present a different experience then it did at 30. This means that content doesn't become obsolete when you "outlevel" it.

Also, GW2 doesn't have quests, per se. GW2 is kind of like Skyrim, you go out and discover the world. There are events that take place in which you have kill x centaurs or pick up y pieces of scrap metal, that you could kind of call "quests" but the thing that's so awesome is that you see the fruit of your labor. Have an event where some humans need weapons to defeat some centaurs? Great, help them by finding weapons. Once the NPCs have enough weapons, a new event may start with the humans now having the weapons they needed and now they're asking for your help in destroying the centaurs and their camp. Now, you and the NPCs run to the centaurs and destroy them together. This is a fictional example, but you get the point; the world is dynamic and living. Arenanet says there's thousands of events already in the game.

TLDR: the world is dynamic, it plays kind of like an RPG, the world is massive, and it's better than any other MMO that's come out in the last 7 years.

I'll add that I love the "events."

You'll be wandering around doing whatever and the screen will prompt an event.

There will be an attack of some sorts on a random village. Could be an army, could be something big like a dragon or whatever. Anyway, people start running to the area to take part. You can choose not to participate and just wander away from the action.

Those that do participate get hella experience and rewards.

It's a nice feature that I'm enjoying.

Most of the events stack into two or three additional events where like you protect the town from the baddies, then have to escort some NPC from point A to point B, then have to protect the NPC from more waves while they do something. Bonus XP, gold and items are given for each.

Anyone's Firefox browser AFU after you, or your kid, has spent a lot of time playing this game? Everything is all shaky and the mouse works intermittently, like FF is always trying to still load something? ???

Edit: it's more than just FF, it's the whole shebang...,

No. I'm not having that problem and I use Firefox.

It's actually the whole F'ing system. My kid just confirmed it - it's dragging everything down. :sorry:

I have a brand new box so I'm not having problems with it.

I can see it putting the hurt on an older system, though.

Yeah - our main system is about 4-5 years old - it is messed up. We got a new laptop - the game may be relegated to there, if it can handle it. It's got the system I'm on wobbling like....., well, you know. :sorry:

I also played Ultima Online. I was on the Lake Superior shard. Played it for about 5 years. Then I went to Earth and Beyond, which was a really good game, but, they decided to scrap the game and use the servers for Siims Online. Currently I play Final Fantasy XI. Getting bored of it (again). Might have to try GW2.

I am still pondering if I am going to get GW2 since I know how much time I put into the first one.

You know you want to. :baiting:
