Rarest Golden Age Books

441 posts in this topic

I'm curious to know what the posters on this board believe to be the 5 rarest Golden Age books by each publisher. For example, based on my experience, the Gerber Guide and the CGC census, I have concluded that the 5 rarest DC's are:

1. Double Action # 2

2. New Adventure # 13

3. New Adventure # 26

4. New Adventure # 27

5. New Fun Comics # 2

By the way, post them if you've got them.

Isn't funny how the rarest books are always in genre/scope of that person who thinks it is rare. So much for an objective opinion.

I'm surprised that there hasn't been any disagreement (yet) over any of the lists posted. I'm also surprised that there haven't been more scans of some of the choices. To get the ball rolling, here's a scan of one of the rare DC's:

I disagree on the Marvels/Timelys. Motion picture funnies and Red Raven you may have a point

but I would say (other than the annuals) something like...

Daring Comics 2

All Winners 19

Comedy Comics 9

Sub-Mariner 32

and maybe Red Raven 1 or Cap 74

OMG, I would be afraid to breathe or even blink near that comic book, much less put it in a scanner. Wow. cloud9.gif
It's just a comic for crying out loud, no more rare than a Double Action 2 or a More Fun 2. Sheeeshh!! 893whatthe.gif

I disagree with myself too!

The two annuals have to be rarest of the rare, right? Wasn't there a Canadian Cap Annual as well? I figure those two or three with the MPFW and Red Raven 1 gives you the rarest Timely/Marvels.

Is the Cap 74 so rare, or is it just the Red Skull classic cover that gets people revved up? confused-smiley-013.gif

All right, I'll make a disagreement also on the New Fun #2.

I've had a couple of them and Mark Wilson has had several,

I think that the #6 is a tougher issue to get (#7 and #8 seem

pretty tough also).

But Big Book of Fun Comics definitely needs to be on the DC list.

I assume that RIP meant Daring MYSTERY Comics #2 - that

book is just super tough, I would rate it right behind Motion Picture

Funnies for Timely.

Another Super - Super Rare book that no one mentions is Wow Comics

#2 (Henle not Fawcett). Only copy I've ever had went to Jon Berk who had

been looking for it for more than a decade and every time I've ever seen the

cover reproduced, it has always been of the copy I sold him.
