Thanks guys. Note that it is very white and clean (the clouds and cape).

No tanning in the book.

Actually, it encapsulated very well with the spine split & detachment.

Looks fantastic. I'm still very jealous

me too Marnin offered me the book for 6k a few years ago and I passed

You and me both. Although, I think he quoted me a higher price than that. :(

4 days remaining on the auction...

What auction?

He's referring to the Whiz in the current Sparkle City auction. Since I recently purchased another copy (yes, lucky me), my 2.0 is in the Sparkle City auction. :wishluck:

With all the discussion recently in this thread, maybe we can get a litmus test on what a low grader will fetch.

I'd love to keep both, but financially it's too challenging.

Glad everything worked out and there was a furious charge of the light brigade at the last second to bring $13,600 for the Whiz #1 2.0 copy! Comparing the two copies that Peewee owned, I would rather have the Detroit Trolley copy even though it got a lower grade. It presents nicer than the 2.0 copy. IMO CGC hammers books way too much for spine splits! EJR

Yes, the Detroit Trolley presents much better (got it in from CGC yesterday). CGC did a perfect job of sealing the cover (does not look split). Bright reds and a white back cover on a cool book.

Overall, I'm happy with both Whiz transactions.

I wouldn't be comfortable giving a book with a completely split spine higher than a 1.5, but I would agree I'd rather have the DT copy than the 2.0 - which is a weak 2.0 IMHO. At the low end of the grading scale, eye appeal is way more important than the grade CGC gives the book.

I think it's time I scanned this puppy. I don't have the label handy but I think it was an SP 4.5 or something along those lines. I guess that makes it worthless. I still love it. It's a gem.
