Bat 1 or AF 15?

102 posts in this topic

I wouldnt be surprised if Sparkle city taped the book. Even though its unethical, a book with a taped spine gets a 2.5 or better even if its completely split. Leaving it as is would get no more than a 1.0.

Its all about the benjamins.

Batman 1 is no brainer.

There were enough AF 15's at NYCC to fill a long box. Bat 1's? MAYBE a dozen.

My point exactly. Opportunities for a blue label Batman 1 at this price point with this eye appeal are going to be few and far between. It could be years. Mid grade AF 15's with no chipping? There will be other copies. Probably next week - certainly next month.

One other consideration though is price. I expect the Batman 1 to end up considerably more expensive. It will probably go over 30K. The AF 15 would set a record at 25K

GPA:

2009

I stand corrected on sale prices of AF15. Thanks!

Also interesting I think is that the popular belief is that AF 15 has been going up steadily in price. But at least for this grade, the book has been trending in the same price range for four years now - excluding the one bargain in 2008.

It appears likely they are doing the taping. They sold a Detective 27 just like this in Feb 2012. Cover reattached with tape. Great eye appeal for the grade. And the book had just been graded by CGC a couple of weeks before

Now with the Batman 1 you see the same taping and again the book just got graded by CGC last week

It is possible of course that who they purchased the books from did the taping. There a few collectors around here that (used to) tape tears and spine splits.

No one cares for tape on a comic. But for a 2.5 instead of a 1.5 most of us would put in on.

Key GA over Key SA. Simple.

Auctions ended:

AF 15 $28,499 - a new high

Batman 1 $30,130.

Most of us sit and watch...

It was a close race - which these very boards predicted!

Are you the proud new owner?

No! Oh well...it had a lot of tape anyway... :)

The tape sucks, but would not have bothered me s you cannot see it while the book is slabbed.

If I had the means, I would have went for the Bat. Any GA first issue or first appearance I would prefer over a SA key.

Everyone has SA keys for sale, not the case for GA keys.

If u could only have 1 of the following, which would u choose?:

Batman 1, CGC blue 2.5, cover totally reattached with tape, otherwise very nice eye appeal

Or

AF 15, CGC blue 6.5, crow, NO Marvel chipping, excellent eye appeal
