[font:Times New Roman]I've signed up with a Kickstarter pledge. Every GA collector and dealer should view this project as having great marketing potential. If successful, these figurines can only serve to increase fan interest in GA comics from publishers of books with less familiar characters. (thumbs u

Thank you for your support Mr. Merryweather! If you or other folks here in the Gold Comics section have suggestions for future characters to feature in the series, feel free to post them here or in the other thread - I'm keeping a list.

[font:Times New Roman]Gladly! There are many worthy of consideration, but since you're requesting ideas, here are some of my faves, naturally starting with...

Cat-Man (Continental)...

Next...

Stormy Foster, The Great Defender (Quality)... img_Hit18_193-1B.jpg

The Red Bee (Quality)... img_HitComics1_082-1B.jpg

The Black Dwarf (Chesler)...

The GA Daredevil (Lev Gleason)...

img_DBHfrontcovercopy_158-2B.jpg...and nemesis The Claw lurking below, if you need a high profile villain.

The Black Terror (Nedor/Standard) has already been suggested...

img_BlackTerror12_041-1A.jpg ...but I'll second his nomination, if that's OK.

I'll also toss Pyroman's hat in the ring (Nedor/Standard), along with MLJ's Hangman, Comet, Blackjack and The Web (a sculpting challenge, that last one).

Hopefully some of these suggestions will be in the PD. hm

David,

Those are all outstanding picks. The Red Bee presents an interesting challenge with the see-through puffy sleeves; would probably have to sacrifice accuracy and make them white with a light blue wash.

Some of the MLJ and Quality characters present possible legal issues which I'd have to investigate before proceeding with a figure; I think that some of these names are still trademarked, so I would probably have to have a very long and specific label like "The Original Golden Age Hangman from Pep Comics No. 8" to avoid potential legal problems.

Characters I'd love to see but would have little audience.

I see you have the Heap but not Airboy b/c of the Eclipse (?) purchase of the rights, correct?

but then what about Black Angel or Sky Wolf?

Plenty of Fiction House characters I don't see in your proposed list: Senorita Rio, Futura, Gale Allen, Flint Baker, Mysta, Kaanga, Sky Girl, Firehair, ...

Scrooge,

I believe I can do Airboy and characters that appeared in his comics as long as I base them off the public domain Golden Age comics, not the modern age stories. I would also probably have to be precise with the labeling: "The Original Golden Age Airboy as He Appeared in Air Fighters Comics Vol. 2, No. 2," for instance.

I'd also love to do a miniature of Airboy's plane "Birdie" (I have a background in aerospace; you can see some of my aviation art here) and some of the other improbable machinery that appeared in his comics. I've no idea what the market would be for that sort of thing though, as a finished resin miniature would probably cost $65 or so. Perhaps it could be sold as a kit, I don't know.

I don't have a prejudice against any of the Fiction House characters you mention and would consider them all. I take it you are a fan of Good Girl art - a man after my own heart!

I'm actually working on Fantomah right now; I'm thinking I may try to do a "blind box" with her where you have different color variations produced at various percentages, with the figurine sealed in an opaque foil bag. Given the inconsistent coloring in some of these old Golden Age stories, you could probably do that with several characters. I could have done it with Stardust, but I wanted to keep this first figurine simple, as it is my first venture into manufacturing.

Well, we're 8 days into the Fletcher Hanks' Stardust Figurine Kickstarter and 35% funded - pretty good, but still quite a ways to go. Many, many thanks to everyone who has pledged thus far! Please tell your friends about it and help spread the word; getting the word out about it is critical to meeting the funding goal. I've added a couple new rewards which will hopefully attract some new pledges:

On the low end, I've added a $5 pledge for those who want to support the project but can't afford the figurine; for this amount, you will receive a limited edition Stardust trading card:

8205633991_da77af4668_z.jpg

I estimate that only 10-20 of these will be produced, so it may become collectible in its own right. It's only available at the $5 pledge level; any excess cards I have at the end will be randomly added to figurine orders.

On the high end, I've added a $750 reward for the serious collector - for this amount, I will digitally sculpt you a single public domain character of your choice and deliver a completely unique hand-painted resin 3D print with a certificate of authenticity. It must be at 1/21 scale and a humanoid of normal stature, not an oversized character like Stardust. This would put it at about 3.5" high. This sculpt will not be produced in quantity and remain one of a kind. If the character you choose is commercial enough to eventually merit mass production, I will substantially alter the pose, select another costume variation, etc. to maintain the exclusivity of your figurine. This reward may seem rather expensive, but given the fact that a professional sculpt can easily run $1200, and a high end 3D print $250 (at this size), it's actually a relative bargain.

In addition, I've created a survey to determine the level of interest in and content of a potential "Golden Age Comics Figurine Collection." If you have a moment, you may fill it out here; it will only take a few minutes and help me in planning out the series.

Finally, a Happy Thanksgiving to everyone on the forum! My reception here has been wonderful and I'm very impressed by the passion and in-depth knowledge people here have of the hobby.

Thanks for taking the survey, comicdey! The results so far have held several surprises; didn't realize the interest in vintage horror and sci-fi was so strong. The preference for resin over lead figurines is also quite pronounced. I wish I had conducted the survey before launching the Kickstarter, but live and learn.

I didn't get your "Diary of Horror" reference until I looked up the cover. That's a pretty chilling tableau, and would make for a chilling figurine!
