I miss Captain america fan, or whatever his name was. He kept calling Oakman Oakland, and wanted desperately to get some cap books. Were he and GIJOEISAWESOME the same guy?

I think capfreak is all grown up by now.GI is what, going into middleschools?

Different guy they're talking about. The Captain America fan who kept pestering Oakman was named Justin and he was "slow". Apparently Sharon spoke with his mother on the phone to confirm who he was.

Ugh. I didn't realize he was actually slow. I'm glad I didn't say anything mean to him. He was certainly enthusiastic!

Capt.America88. At the end he said he had gotten into buying and selling knives. Can't believe it's been nearly three years.

I have a few books out of my entire collection that I can safely say "I believe" them to be 9.9.

My submissions have never garnered more than a CGC 9.8. Of course I've never sent in my mythical 9.9+ books.

I've submitted a 9.9 and received a 9.9.

Any Vengeance of Bane #1's?

Would have been.

I have a proposal for you. Money can go to charity or in your pocket, I don't care. I believe that you don't truly believe that any raw book you list for sale as a 9.9, is actually a 9.9. To prove my point, I propose the following:

You compile a group of 5 raw books that you believe are 9.9s. Post scans here. Sub them. I will pay you $100 for every book that hits 9.9 and you can keep the books. If more than 2 of the 5 don't hit a 9.9, you will owe me $150.

I.e., time to put your overgrading Ebay money where your overgrading Ebay mouth is. I think I offered a similar challenge on Ebay raw 9.8s of yours and you blew it off. You've got nothing to lose.

Here's my prior offer:

You sell labels jim, not books, and you can't even see the books in your listings - get a life.

You wouldn't know a HG book from a hole in the ground. lol

Just out of curiosity, would you guarantee that numerical grade if someone bought it and sent it straight into CGC without a press?

I guarantee the grade of every book I sell. I think I've had two returns in over 12 years and 10,000 sales. ;) And those were many years ago.

And even you know there are still many variables in this statement, "if someone bought it and sent it straight into CGC without a press?"

I wasn't trying to bait you, I was sincerely curious.

I will put this out there. A wager that benefits charity.

I will buy a raw book of my choosing from Divad's ebay listings, now or in the near future. The book can be sent to a neutral third party who will relay it to CGC, fast-tracked at my expense, without further pressing or any modification from its current state upon receipt. If the book comes back in the same grade, I will sell the book and donate any profits to charity. I will also donate $100 to the charity of Divad's choosing.

If the book does not come back the same grade, the book will still be sold with profits going to charity. Additionally, Divad must put the following statement in his signature line:

"I cannot consistently guarantee the grades of raw books that I sell on Ebay. In fact, I should probably get them graded myself rather than selling hope to others." in 20pt, bolded font, for 1 year.

Deal?? I'm 1:1 on public board wagers. I'm due to lose.

Ugh.

Seriously, die hard collectors who have been grading books on their own accord for what I would presumably say is at least 25 years for each of the board members who have replied to this....should be able to confidently assign ANY grade to a modern age book. That was my original point.

I was using all that DS # 1 conjecture as an anecdote but YES, I will back what I said with a $100 bet. There is a chance that I could be wrong, of course but nonetheless, I stand behind my grading.

My original post noted that I had not looked at the books in a while and they needed to be pressed, in order to fetch a 9.9....at least 1 of them should get a 9.9, possibly 2.

After I press them and there is no trace of any indentation and if they look 9.9 to me.Then yes, I'll put my $100 where my mouth is.

I'll take your $100, though that's a lot of additional conditions you added.

If you do go through with this you may learn that CGC don't give out Copper 9.9's as easily as you think.

I've only ever had two but they were both doozies.....ASM #238 and X-Men #211.

CGC only other guys give the 9.9's away

That's what I heard as well.

If the other guys "give away" 9.9's and 10.0's shouldn't that devalue the price for an other guy's 9.8 vs. a CGC 9.8?

I've only have recieved 2 books that have come back 9.9, Back in 2000 a Harley Quinn 1 and an Origin 1, sold that for 350 at the time. Let's ask Beachbum how he gets so many 9.9/10 copies.
He works his BUTT off and subs a ton of books so odds are that he would pull more 9.9 / 10.0 books Plus Onsite grading is the key !

Plus a lot of moderns like IDW books have a thicker stock of cover and interior paper. If he gets first pickings right out of an unopened case, I'm sure it's not super tough to pick out winners.

The other dude is saying he wouldn't have any trouble picking out 9.9 copper age books, which are a totally different animal.
