I enjoyed I, Vampire & Swamp Thing.

 

I enjoyed all 3 of them. The Rot story line so far is very well written, I couldnt put the trades down. I just have to wait for vol 3 to come out or go find the back issues.

April 28: The Two Faces of Tomorrow (26 issues): Have had a hankering for some "hard science" fiction ever since reading Planetes. Tomorrow is a manga adaptation of a hard science novel. Its like 2001, but even better. Highly recommended!

GI Joe Hearts & Minds OGN (6 issues): A series of profile quick stories about various members of Joe & Cobra delving into their motivations and back stories in some cases. Interesting work by Max Brooks.

Ultimate Iron Man Vol 2 (6 issues): A few interesting concepts, but a weak reinvention of Iron Man by OSC.

The Shade by James Robinson (12 issues): What is the deal with Robinson? He writes absolute crud any other time but give him a chance to write in the Starman universe and he knocks it out of the park. Since The Shade has been around so long we get to see a range of artists as The Shade tells tales from his loooooong history. Great book to read.

May 1:DCBS shipment ( GL books, Batman, Batgirl, a few others) 8 issues. Nothing noteworthy. Man I cant wait for GL to end. I will see how the new author does and if its not awesome, walk away for now. Thought Batgirl wsa the best of the month.

May 1: Batman Black & White Vol 1 & 2 (17 issues total content). Loved these vignettes in the black and white art. Some were great, some were not, but all in all well worth reading thru, and the black and white format really lets you focus on the line work by the artist.

May 2: Uncanny X-men: Children of the Atom (6 issues): Nice retelling of the X-men origin. Joe Casey writing was good, the art (particularly Steve Rude) was great, and awesome covers.

May 3: Batman & the Mad Monk (6 issues): decent retelling of the early Mad Monk story, Never been huge on Matt Wagner, but this was nice. A good standalone story.

May 3: Dollar Bin Diving: (5 issues) of Batgirl (Cassie Cain edition). Was just picking these up for Babs, Spoiler & Birds of Prey appearances, but man Cassie is starting to grow on me.

May 6: Manhattan Project Vol 2 (5 issues): Another fine book. Always some interesting concepts, though it didnt feel like there was quite the volume of them as in the first book. I like where this left off with Openheimer existing inside his twins consciousness.

 

May 7: Daredevil by Waid HC (12 issues). After about 4 issues I stopped reading this cause I knew I would want to own a beautiful version of this for a long time. Waid writes a great non-serious Daredevil, Marcos Martin & Paolo Rivera just DESTROY the art in amazing fashion. So great. Pick up the singles, grab a trade, everyone read this some way some how!

 

May 8: DMZ Vol 11 & 12 (13 issues) Brian Wood. *sigh* When I first got back into comics back in 2006 DMZ was about 3 or 4 issues in, and it was getting some critical acclaim. I picked it up and fell in love. It was the ONLY book I would double dip on for the next 2-3 years (getting all the singles and trades as they came out). Eventually funding required me to just get the trades, and then I decided after vol 10 to just wait for the last two volumes to come out before reading the finale to this great Poly-Fi tale. Anyone into Poly-Sci, or just interesting alternative modern history tales should read this. Matty... matty... matty....

 

May 9: The Unwritten Vol 7 (6 issues) Last volume was so strong this one felt a little weak, but I'll stick around cause this is as good as it gets for writing these days. Joe Casey is awesome. Looking forward to Casey's new book from Dark Horse (pre-order this month in Previews)

 

May 10: Superman Red Son HC (7 issues). Pulled this off the shelf one night and forgot how awesome this conceit was. Even in Russia, Batman is the shiznit. Love the cyclical nature of the plot once it came to a close.
