Everyone I know personally, including "broads," are way turned off by the content of Saga. I'm sure there are just as many who don't read Saga because of the content than those that do. EoW doesn't have anything that would turn off readers like Saga does. That could be a huge group of potential readers that Saga will never reach. We will agree to disagree, as ive personally seen three separate times a female come into the LCS and ask where the Saga back issues were located. Most broads are not turned off by real life events (sex, swearing), but maybe thats more of about where i love (New York) i just see the EoW crowd more likely to be fans of Preacher then Y The Last Man Yeah, probably a lot due to location. The top of the ranks are really clustered and it may be a couple hundred sales a month separating them. Also, and this has been rehashed already in this thread, that Hickman didn't ok any other variants. The Ghost/Forbidden Planet are from those retailers, and those alone. I'll be the first to say this tho, and have rocks thrown at me. I think this will be chosen as "The Best Comic" of 2013, like Saga was, and in time it will probably surpass Saga. Manhattan Projects is already one of the most over looked books out right now, just starting to gain momentum, and Hickman I feel is one of the best out there. I can only hope, and have faith. Agree with cujo here. The only thing to consider are those who will trash a book because they failed to get in on the pre-orders or don't get the big variant like the RRP. If they don't get in, then they have no problem trashing a book because they have nothing invested in it. Sad but true. I dont think this above is true very often. Most that dont like a book at least list why they dont like it. I got plenty of issues of Saga, but I dont like the book at all. I gave it several issues, but the writing style doesnt appeal to me. How many people agree with this that DO NOT have 100 copies in the closet...? I have a healthy stack too, but I'm with TBP. I just don't see it. And I've already sold enough to cover my costs. If I had more confidence in this book, I would have held onto them longer. In this case, though, I think it's better to hedge my bets, especially in light of the print run. The book is great, but the last time I knew so many people sitting on 100 copies of a #1, Jim Lee was drawing X-Men. And that didn't work out so well. I see no reason why speculation can't also drive East of West to the same level. There are more speculators now, so the time to get there would be shorter. The things we are talking about, quality of story, print run, etc. These are just the means of justifying the price point to speculators. Having a high quality book, with strong readership, will support the speculative price. But people shouldnt kid themselves in thinking a huge portion of saga's value isnt due to speculation. Give or take a few days. When and if EoW takes off there won't be any back issues to find. Hence the demand ~ price will increase quicker than Saga. Hope I'm right!! EoW will have broader appeal IMHO due to MP being a more cerebral book (too early to judge or label EoW, but didn't get the same brainy feeling off issue #1).
