505 posts in this topic

is there going to be one for the main ongoing series that this thread is about Larry?

Yes.

I'm a HUGE Star Wars fan & I can assure you.

Star Wars Legacy is certainly Star Wars.

I won't soil your precious thread anymore though...

You're right Larry.

We're wrong as always.

We can only wish to be a supercilious retailer :)

wow man, clearly i worded that poorly, that is not at ALL what i said. GOOD GRIEF. I need to type better in the mornings, let me try again:

Hi Larry, that's a cool book, I saw it before when you first announced it. I was wondering

is there going to be one for the main ongoing series that this thread is about, Larry?

I wasnt saying you couldnt post the other one in this thread. I wasnt saying this thread was "about larry". All i was asking was, is there going to be one for THIS series.

But this series doesnt have a proper name, so i didnt know how to label it. I just called it "the one this thread is about". Personally, i think it should be called Star Wars vol. 2, with Marvel's being vol. 1

Anyway, i wasnt trying to diss anyone, and genuinely wanted to know if Star Wars 2013 by Dark Horse was going to have a Phantom Variant.

:eek::eek:

Hey guys!! I believe that the Star Wars Legacy #1 Phantom is going to be huge, especially the signed copy. Here's some information I pulled up:

Collector's Paradise in Canoga Park, CA, the Los Angeles Area Phantom Variant (http://phantomvariant.com) store, is hosting the Official Release event for the new comic book series, Star Wars Legacy, for issue #1, with artist Gabriel Hardman, writer Corinna Bechko and cover artist Dave Wilkins. The event is on Saturday, March 23rd, from 12pm to 3pm. In addition to the creative team, they will have an EXCLUSIVE PRINT only available at this event, plus the Phantom Variant cover, available only at Collector’s Paradise stores in LA area (Canoga Park and Pasadena). Also, during the release event, they'll be producing 2 limited edition signed comics, by the creative team, with Certificates of Authenticity. One for the Phantom Variant Cover, and the other one for the Regular Dave Wilkins Cover. Each Edition is limited to 100 copies, signed by the team and certified by Collector’s Paradise. Fans can pre-order these already from their online store, to be shipped out right after the signing.

The signing will be a store signing exclusive to the store. I do not believe store exclusive signings ever fetch more than a few bucks above retail.

The actual comic will be available at all retailers that are part of the Phantom Variant program. I believe I read somewhere that all (most) Phantom Variant editions have a print run of 3000 copies.

While that is true, those of us who have to purchase Phantom Variants online should think about purchasing this one. Most online retailers sell their Phantom Variants online for $14.99 and that is unsigned. For the same price, online shoppers can purchase a signed copy for that same $14.99.

zzz

Easy pass.

I agree!!! gee I never seen that scene before...... Don't get me wrong the original poster is a classic and an original, but do we really need another take on it. It's been done so many times. I think its time for some new fresh looking comic covers... this is not it.

I like the cover and think this would have worked better as the regular cover for this series. I do wonder though, why is there a price of $2.99 on this cover? Do any of the Phantom Variant retailers actually sell the comic for cover price?

By the way, kudos to Dark Horse for continuing to keep the prices low on some of their comics. For an "indie" publishers, it is cool to see they are able to occasionally price a series at $2.99 cover still. I like that they jumped to $3.50 a few years ago instead of going all the way to $3.99 like most publishers.

It is unfortunately Dark Horse hasn't been able to turn these lower priced comics into more marketshare though. :frown: It does appear that they are going to not be the number 4 or 5 publisher at the rate Boom, IDW, and some of the other publishers are going. Despite what people say about comic prices, they continue to flock to the same titles/characters, regardless of what the cover price says.

I'm curious, does anyone know how many of the 1 per reatailer # 1 sketch variants were printed ?

it's unknown, but it's 1 per diamond account, so bounded by that as an upper limit.

When I asked Larry (he's a retailer) about it, he said there are around 2600 accounts. I think 1500-2000 would be a pretty good guess at what the print-run would be.

Can't be that many issues Dark Horse unfortunately doesn't have the Star Wars rights for much longer.

Does anyone see Star Wars from DH increasing in value once Marvel takes over?

I wouldn't bet on it but a lot of discontinued series have small print runs at the end of their series. Examples would be GI Joe 155, Transformers 80, and even Star Wars 107. I'm sure there are more. These all have high resale values because they all had small print runs and they all have huge fanbases.

I see a difference with the current run because they seem to be maintaining their popularity and in turn there is no steep decline in print runs. With all that said, only time will tell.

They're doing the same for every issue of Star Wars. # 2 and so forth

i think it's just for the first 4, isn't it?

I read somewhere that it was for the first four. Has Dark Horse lost the Star Wars franchise for certain ?
