Has there ever been a role with more perfect casting than...

Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka.

I don't read Ironman, never have, but my understanding is that Downey plays himself, not the man of the comic books.

So it isn't so much a perfect casting of the role, as it is a talented actor creating a new persona that audiences love.

Harrison Ford as Han Solo.

Imagine if we'd had instead this guy?

(All three were reportedly up for the part -- King and Nolte actually were brought in, and King played Solo in radio adaptations).

When a great actor (like Ford, or others mentioned in this thread) puts forth a great performance and makes a character their own and makes it impossible for you to think if anyone else in the role, then that's perfect casting.
