Wondering what the general consensus is on these books?

 

Will the keys have any lasting value down the road, or will they be sent to reprint bargain hell when the show hoopla is over?

In comparison to the other weekly issues, the keys will be worth more. In comparison to the regular series and it's keys, not even close.

Well yeah, I didn't mean would they compare to the originals.

 

Looks like a #19 weekly goes for $30-$40 ungraded. I don't think it will ever come close to 1st print prices obviously...

 

I wonder if they will remain in that price range, or come back to earth?

I would have thought it was down to the lower print run of the earlier books that weekly came about. I doubt they would pick it up again.

Well...they have WD Monoply and Risk games so I'm pretty sure that they will pick up with #53 forward again someday to cash in even more.

im sure Weekly 53 will be out when they bring Woody Harelson, errr Abraham on the show

Weekly's have finally slowed down. There was a period of about 6 months were you could sell any weekly above cover easy. As Gems pointed out if you have a set of 1-52 it might be worth holding onto if they ever restart Weeklys again.

I find that alot of the Weekly explosion was due to new collectors who loved the show I enjoyed building my Weekly set, and I only have a handful to submit to complete a 9.8 run, but I'm content with it not resuming

for those of you that collected in 2011, what kind of reception did the Weekly's get?

 

i cant imagine why people wouldnt have stocked up on the keys

I found most avoided it, they felt it caused confusion for new collectors and detracted from the original run. Some people thought I was loopy for collecting a graded set, but I love collecting WD

 

It wasn't till the show really took off, that the prices flew into over drive

 

New collectors created the value on the Weekly books I think there were some people who speculated with the keys, and certainly profited, but most steered clear. For that reason, the print run wasn't as high as it would have been, if this was released during season 2-3.

Sure thing now to complete this set, once and for all. Still kicking myself for forgetting to bid on the Weeklyn#19 9.9 on ebay Only two 9.9 books in the Weekly set, and I have the other book I'll find it again...eventually

Personally I equate the weeklys to titles like "Marvel Tales" and "Fantasy Masterpiece". They make for good reads of the the original without having to pay the higher price for the first print.

 

Some collectibility in them, but it all depends on the market. I dunno, with all the speculation going on with moderns nowadays, I'm reluctant to buy anything new that I don't plan on reading..

I agree with the comparison, and, other than collecting more revenue on Kirkman's part, his intention was to allow new collectors from the show to see what the comics were all about, without paying for higher priced originals. BUT, the trades served the same purpose

 

Personally, I looked at it as more variants to collect. Heck, I even tried to get them into the variant set, but was shot down by other registry owners. With that being said, I requested the Weekly set to be added

Wish I got back into comics sooner, but I still lucked out on building my set, when I did. I acquired all the early and key books, before the prices went crazy

 

#19 for $200 and a #1 for $500 I thought the 9.8 #1 was high at $500 when I started, not so much now
