WHAT'S IN YOUR COLLECTION: GUILTY PLEASURES

71 posts in this topic

A full run of DC's Blue Devil is probably my guiltiest pleasure of all. It seemed so cool when I was fourteen! Does Howard The Duck count as a guilty pleasure? If so, that's another one for me.

Howard The Duck is an autobiography , so no

Excellent topic Brain! Mine has been and still is The Crow. The book, the comics, the soundtrack and I still have all the trading cards. Must have seen the movie a dozen times. cloud9.gif

Some R. Crumb junk comics I bought from Bud Plant when I was a kid because the catalog promised it would have "strong sexual content/nudity."

I'd never seen Crub's art before...let's just say what I got was NOT what I hoped for.

I also have a Steve Woron signed portfolio of Guinevierre drawings.

EC Pre-code horror reprints, because they're fun to read while listening to The Cramps.

"Savage Swrod" readers because my mom threw mine away when I was 13, and they're nostalgic. I got outbid on my favorite original splash in the last Heritage auction.

Cynical Man...

First panel of the first issue, Cynical man sticks his head out the window to see it's a beautiful day. He frowns and says..."Maybe it'll rain later..."

And I'll second The Green Team, which was pretty darn cool for the nine-year-old that I was when I bought it off the rack. I especially liked the kid who got into the team because the bank accidentally added numerous zeros to his balance, allowing him the $1,000,000 he needed to join the team.

Cry for Dawn by Joe Linsner and Joe Monks, Animal Mystic by Dark One, and The Girl by Kevin J. Taylor.

CFD was a mid 80s/early 90s horror anthology. Some issues were hit and miss but you could see the passion in what they were doing. Linsner has a hardcore following for his art style which seemed unique at the time. Others have tried to mimic it. He' s a very nice guy.

Animal Mystic was a fantasy/T/A comic smirk.gif but for some reason I really liked it. Dark One was a nice and interesting guy too. I haven't seen much of him lately and wonder what he's up to these days.

Girl is just hardcore porn/witchcraft comics devil.gif by Kevin J. Taylor. His exaggerated style just strikes me the right way. I know he has a strong following, espeically in Europe.

If you don't have one, you gotta get the "Mr. T In Your Pocket" toy keychain/voicebox. It has six Mr T-isms recorded by T himself that spout out loudly at the push of a button.

Included are such timeless bits of advice and commentary such as:

1. I pity the fool!

2. Shuddup fool!

3. Quit yo jibba jabba!

4. Don't gimme no backtalk, sucker!

5. Don't make me mad (GGRRRRR)!!!

6. First name, Mister. Middle name Period. Last name, T.
