CGC Green Eggs Grading Contest Round 6 Results

46 posts in this topic

I graded the MiS as if the staple was attached and then subtracted for the popped staple. Bullseye!

How much did you subtract? hm As mentioned in the other thread, I thought it would be a threshold thing...as if for blue label couldn't be FN or better... (shrug)

As far as I'm aware, unless you designate to CGC as such, a detached staple will get you a green label...maybe zuckuss is right, it's not completely detached...

I would expect to drop the grade approximately 4 grades. ie. 8.5 to a 6.5

Maybe Timely will add his 2c .....

Guys, please help! s0721.gif

There's no understandable pattern to these grades. I really want to improve at this but it's not making sense to me.

Are there any good grading guides you guys are using?

I've been using this with pretty good results.

After reading the green vs blue label thread, I am more confused why the book didn't get a green label or be blue with notes on it, unless that staple is still partially attached.

Thanks! :) Never seen this one, and I need all the guides I can find when guessing CGC grades, lol.

For the real lower and mid grade books I look at Overstreet, but sort of bump it up a half grade depending on the book. These last two I didn't bump and I was off by a half grade. I should have known better, but I wasn't sure what to do with the staple and the tape was throwing me off too.

I couldn't see the staple from any angle, once inside the CGC slab. That's why I brought it to everyone's attention. Perhaps it is still attached, but deeply recessed. (shrug) All that being said, it still appears to be popped.

Thank you for your response. I'll have to order an overstreet guide sometime..

Arg. Still waiting on a bullseye! I thought the 1st one was a 6.5 but went with the bump to 7.0. The second one looked like a 3.0 with the corner ripped off but I bumped it up to 3.5. I never would have thought it would get a 4.5 without a corner.
