Is this issue scarce?  Dave Anderson asked me about one of the Skull covers and thought it might be difficult to find but we couldn't decide which.

OPG lists the V2/2 issue as "rare".... the giant ant cover..... the rest I'm not sure. I don't see this one often, but that's probably due more to the lower prices that the Shadow run usually realize.... what they go for just isn't enough for the owners of the cooler ones to be enticed to sell. I'd imagine the title is tougher than the more common GA fare, such as Batman or Superman, but with diligence, I'd imagine most are around with a little digging.....especially if VG is acceptable. GOD BLESS...

This is most likely accurate!

Very cool!

(I had to go Google anthracite. (:)

We had a coal furnace in Michigan back in the fifties.  A load of coal would last all winter.  We banked the fire to keep the coals hot all night but every morning the fire had to be stoked and fed fresh coal.  It was cold when the fire went out.  Coal was delivered through a window in the basement.  Chunks of coal varied in size from fist size to as big as your head.  Hard coal like anthracite lasted longer and burned cleaner than soft coal.

Now I had to Google "bank a fire"! lol

(very little camping experience!) :hi:

I thought I read about Blue Coal being treated with solvents to make it easier to burn or fill coal shutes.  It seems kind of fuzzy.  We needed a good furnace in Michigan.  The winters were awfully cold and there was no bus service to the poor side of town.  Yes it was a mile and a half walk to school uphill both ways when the temperature was 10 degrees below zero Fahrenheit.:preach:

I grew up in Monroe which was the home of General Custer.  I wonder whether his statue has been removed from the city park.

If you look closely and hold the book at an angle, you can see the metallic sheen to the inks on this cover. They only used these inks on a few issues and this is one of them. Makes this one extra special to me. Congrats! :applause:

Books were stolen. More than the All American #61 and Venus #18 too. Not sure how many others are gone just yet. I know who took them and the silence on the part of the poster who brazenly posted them as recent acquisitions when I asked who sold them to him tells me he is aware they are stolen books.

FYI, the scan of the Venus #18 is from comic link where I purchased it. The photo of the book is not mine.

Was this ever resolved? I see the poster in question selling books here on the boards; would just like to know if everything is copacetic.

Those two books were recovered. Others are still missing though from the initial theft. I posted the known missing books on a thread earlier. The most notable were a Venus #19, Young Men #24, Chamber of Chills #19 and Mister Mystery #6.

I returned the two books when I learned about the situation few weeks back . I was hoping Brett will be kind enough to say something about it. so I don't have to still be questioned about it here. .  I did what i could to help and I moved on.

I did actually clear up the matter of the 2 books in question earlier in the thread.

Sorry if there was any further confusion in the matter.

For anyone interested I was able to get the 2 books back that were posted here and others but I'm still missing things like Venus #19, Young Men #24, Chamber of Chills #19, Mister Mystery #6, etc. that have yet to turn up. After I complete an inventory of what's missing I'll post something on the boards.

Happy to get back what I got so far but still disappointing about the rest being MIA.

There's never a good time to get robbed but with SDCC next week this has been over the top for me.

This was the earlier post by me.

Again sorry if that part wasn't clear.
