Ballistic

44 posts in this topic

I've tried some of Black Mask's other comics and have really enjoyed them so far. Twelve reasons to die only has one issue out but so far so good. Occupy Comics is an interesting and chunky read (not a 10 minute flipbook). I would really like to read liberator but haven't gotten it in yet. And then there is this. For some reason Ballistic just doesn't look like something I'd personally enjoy. I'd love to hear other's opinions about this one though. If it's got some good reviews I'll give it a shot.

Vhunter, it comes out this coming wednesday the 10th.

I think this is gonna be a serious surprise hit. It was majorly under-ordered by retailers, so when it connects it's gonna disappear fast.

Also, not to call the shot too much, but we're gonna have an announcement shortly that's gonna put a ton of eyeballs on this book. You've officially been heads-upped ;)

Here's the first reviews:

"Ballistic is my favorite comic of 2013."

- Grant Morrison

"One comic in particular this year was a complete shock to the system. Ladies, gentlemen – I give you Ballistic! … F*** YES!"

- Comics Beat (Laura Sneddon) [preview]

"In the future, your gun will talk to you — and it’ll be kind of an a**hole. After we read Ballistic, we were blown away not just by the insane creativity of the setting, but the detail — it’s a world so fully-realized it’s like writer Adam Egypt Mortimer and artist Darick Robertson are secretly living there… It will be one of the most fun, unique sci-fi comics of the year."

- io9 (Rob Bricken)

"Ballistic ranks among the best premiere issues that I have read in a long time. The book is violent, irreverent, and completely absurd, and I can’t recall the last time I’ve experienced such a fantastic mixture of those three things… If you can pick up one comic this week, make it this one! Ballistic scores a clear 5/5."

- Geekscape (Derek Kraneveldt)

"You wake up. You roll out of bed, ready for another day of air-conditioning repair. When you go to make some toast, though, the toaster calls you an a**hole and, in the background, you can hear your best friend — who is also a gun — laughing at you. Welcome to Repo City State!"

- Multiversity Comics (Matthew Meylikhov)

"5 out of 5. To coin a phrase from Mortal Kombat, this is a flawless victory. There are no negatives… It’s that completely random, absurdist look at the future with complete irreverence for traditional comic storytelling that puts Ballistic right up there with Fred Van Lente’s Archer & Armstrong for being the funniest, most addictive story of recent comic book memory. It’s my pick of the week."

"Hmm, could this be the next SAGA?"

It's still gonna be a hard sell on these boards since it's a mini.

Yup. Unless the big announcement pizzolo is referring to either contains the words 'ongoing' or 'movie/TV deal'.

On the flip side, Darick Robertson is a fabulous artist.

My lips are sealed for the moment :) except to agree that Darick is fabulous. I think his work in Ballistic is some of the best he's ever done.
