Finally got around to posting this….still need those Justice League 69 third and fourth print in the 9.8 but I can now move on to some others in the set.

I picked up this copy of adventures of Superman 500 platinum edition. The copy is in really good condition. It slightly creased on the back from the poly bag. I think a pressing could get out the crease, but I am worried that it would destroy the sticker on the cover. Has anyone tried to press a book like this?

I have had very good success with using Joey on these. You can see some of my results in my journal.

Got my platinum Adventures of Superman 500 back. I didn’t press it. I might resubmit and press it later. Graders noted said “light crease left top of back cover, and very light poly bag crease back cover.

Looks great!  I would have guessed higher than 9.0 by how clean the front looks.

I guess that light crease on back cover might show the wisdom of removing the comic book from the poly bag as soon as it was purchased.  I chose to open one and then kept the bag in a separate bag/board and then also kept an unopened platinum copy just so it could be seen in its original state when sold (weird, I know).

It’s funny cuz I’ve got a 9.8 adventures of Superman 500 collectors edition with a light poly bag crease on the back, so I thought maybe the platinum would make a higher grade than a 9.0.

Well done! You have some really tough books to find in 9.8 like Action Comics #683 and #684 second printings, impressive.

So, after a very helpful Boardie referred me to Cpt Kirk he was kind enough to point me here. While mowing through boxes I came across it and he believes it to be a variant. I am not a DCU Variant Collector but if anyone needs this for their set I have one (shameless plug!).

This has been at CGC since June.  I was told it was not signed in July during the signing but was sent to Dan later with others to be signed (Oct/Nov timeframe).  It was finally graded 8 Jan and says signed and sketch on 29 July 23, which must be incorrect, otherwise where has this book been this entire time?  I did not have 9.8 aspirations with this book so am happy with the grade.  Kinda wish the Doomsday sketch was clearer but this had to be a tough cover to sketch on!  I love the yellow sig!

Here is a recent discovery of a new variant from the Death and Reign of Superman.   It was pointed out to me by @kenaran, who has an uncanny knack for finding the rarest of the rare.  The "Eastern News" is not a sticker, the book was printed this way.  The only newstand issue that we have seen of this "deluxe" version before now is a stickered copy (the stickered newsstand version is also shown below for reference... it is a newsstand sticker that is placed over the Direct Sales UPC).   I believe these can still be found on ebay.

I wonder how many other issues exist with this bespoke Eastern News barcode. If I recall correctly, Eastern News primarily did distribution to mini-bookstores in business areas, like the ones in airports. I have to assume that, however many books were printed for them this way, survival rates are, erm, not gonna be great absent warehouse finds.
