Ben Affleck is Batman!

Interesting article on why DC cast Affleck, talks about the split of WB & Legendary:

"The most interesting tidbit from the divorce is that Legendary gave up its "Man of Steel" sequel in order to keep its name on Christopher Nolan's upcoming "Interstellar" project.

It appears that "Interstellar" is more important to Legendary than a Batman / Superman film, which is worrying for Batfans."

My problem with Ben Affleck is that he is a movie star and not a charecter actor. He can't blend into a role it will always be Ben Affleck as Batman. Bale is a character actor he blends right into any role he plays case and point the Fighter, American Psycho, The Machinist to name a few.

Case and point look at Jack Nicholson great actor but he is always Jack in whatever role he plays, But look at DeNeiro or Johnny Depp they blend into a role and you believe they are that charecter/role

Bale set the bar way to high for Affleck to be a good Batman. People that are using Keaton as an example are way off base. Before Keaton there was no other Batman to base off of if he was any good. It was a blank slate

That didn't stop RDJ from being RDJ in every movie he's made, including Iron Man. People ate RDJ playing RDJ as Iron Man up.

Yeah, but RDJ has been a living Tony Stark for the last 20 years or so. lol

There's a reason Batman got left out of a lot of the interstellar adventures. Just imagine Affleck in a space battle as Batman. Memories of the Green Lantern movie are rising to the surface.

You've got to play Batman in the JLA the way Morrison wrote him.

He's fifteen steps ahead and he's the one the bad guys should be trying to take out first.

Heck, his JLA run would make a great movie.

Please get some new images or whatever they are called.

Same ones done to death. zzz

At least RMA annoys us with new ones.

The Lebowski one was new... the Grumpy Cat one was new...

Man, I know I can't please everyone, but I can't seem to please anyone today...

:sorry:

Personally I still think his best acting performance was in Dazed and Confused:

lol

I hate that guy.

I know. He plays him so well.

They should've cast Affleck as Guy Gardner.

I would watch that.

Then they could've had Bale as Batman knock him out with one punch....

I would watch that.

I had no idea RDJ was a billionaire genius playboy!

Bale was certainly the best actor to take on a super hero role in a long long time. I cant even think of a better one. 3:10 to Yuma, The Machinist, American Psycho, The Prestige.... fine actor, with a good pedigree

So sure its a high bar that's been set.

But I think a lot of that comes down to how the -script treats Batman/Bruce Wayne. I think this casting sheds a little light on the idea that Batman will not be as dark/frank miller-y as the Bale/Nolan Batman. Which makes sense for a kid friendly PG-13 "fantasy violence" type movie. They are trying to compete with The Avengers, and the toys, and the kids lunchboxes and the t-shirts. A more kid-friendly version of Batman (and Superman, you know a non-creepy, hovering outside your bedroom, "is that my kid" version).

I have to assume the casting is based on the Superman/Batman -script tone and direction.

Ben Affleck is a stiff actor and not very natural at all.

Compare these two similar type of scenes, the first with Affleck and the second with Alec Baldwin.

Chuck, I think there might be some footage from Ben's High School Drama Class that might be on point.....since you are delving back into the catacombs for footage.

Boiler Room was filmed almost 15 years ago. lol

RDJ has always had a certain cool factor, Affleck not so much. Lets not forget all this talk about Ben being great in the Town, the Town was a Boston based movie so all Ben had to do was act like he was from Boston. Oh wait he's from Boston you don't say doh!

I like Ben but i just don't think he has the cool factor to be Batman, like RDJ has to be Tony Stark. Plus in my eyes Ben has always been second fiddle to Matt Damon

I would rather see Jason Lee (left field actor, I know - [My Name is Earl]) play Batman than Ben Affleck.

Ryan Gosling.... do you really want the Notebook guy to play Bruce Wayne? They should really just pick someone completely new like they did Henry Cavill. And if they need a much older actor, Jim Caviezel is already established. Has the look. Did great in the Count of Monte Cristo as antihero character.

lol Thanks for sharing Ryan.

Wow, people are all OVER this huh? :insane: Daredevil was an atrocity mainly due to plot, directing, and supporting actors around Affleck. And that was sort of the beginning of the superhero movies becoming more in the spot light. A lot has changed since then.

I know initially, I was  central with Affleck as Batman and I definitely pointed to DD. But I've changed my tune. Give the guy a chance. He could surprise everyone. DD was just a mistake overall. Should Clooney get a ton of animosity from his role in that Batman & Robin horror? Bad films are just bad films. (shrug)
