Howdy. I know the condition here is far from amazing, but I'm trying to get a handle on grading, so I'm curious what the experts think this would merit. I'd like to compare it to the number I have in mind to see if I'm getting better at assessing condition. Thank ye kindly.

That high?

I see some colour-lift on the back cover, lots of colour-breaks with the overhang and the spine ticks on the front, soft/bent/creased corners, possible staining/overspray on the back cover...

I was leaning lower than 7.5...

The scanner and images look absolutely fine to me, and look the same as the comic looks in hand, at least to me. The amount of detail visible in Photobucket is ridiculous (I scan at 600 dpi), and I even lowered the saturation levels for the front (didn't bother with the back), per earlier complaints. Divad, can you specify exactly what is making it difficult for you to determine grade?

I was thinking possibly lower, maybe 6.5 or 7.0. So I'm pretty pleased you guys think it's a notch or two higher. Thanks so much for taking the time to check it out!

I wasn't sure that was colour-lift on the back cover. It appeared more of a production flaw. Were you thinking along the lines of "tape pull" type of colour-lift? Maybe Furby can confirm what is happening?

Yes, if that is damage to the cover where there is no yellow, that will detract grade. If it is just a part of the cover that didn't get ink properly, it should affect this grade of book. But, to me (and not having the book in hand,) it looks like tape-pull. Two straight edges, about 1/4" apart?

Furby, can you look at that spot and see if it is tape-pull, colour-lift somehow, or just a production flaw?

6.0-6.5 is about what I initially thought. If that area of the cover is not damaged, I'd agree with 7.5.

I can't tell what that is. It doesn't look like tape pull to me, but I'm far from an expert.

Is the cover evenly glossy, even over the "affected area" I referred to? Or does it get sull and lose its sheen at that spot?

I didn't think it was a tape pull because there doesn't appear to be any fibre damage to the surrounding paper. I am almost certain it is a printing flaw and if it is there would be no effect on the grade. We would need an expert to verify this and/or have the book in hand! (thumbs u

:gossip: It's not a production defect.

Find me one other example of this book that has a similar "printing flaw" :insane:

Once again, the scanner settings are waaaaay off. When the colors and brightness are askew, it makes grading from a scan just conjecture. (shrug)

+1. The image is all over-exposed, and has a color dominance (don’t know if this is the right english term, it’s used in photography).

I must have unusually bad (or good) eyesight, because I have no difficulty viewing this scan.

Hi Slym et al:

I'm back from an afternoon out with the kids. I believe this area is not a production flaw. I've rubbed my hand gently along the area and it seems as if it loses a touch of sheen at that spot. It's such a tiny area, it's hard to be sure. At the top of pages of the comic there is some dark ink overspray, so I guess there were production issues, but it looks like the back cover issue is tape pull or something like that.
