Funny you mentioned Airboy.

I bought a good Eclipse collection early this year. And Airboy is the one I'm reading now.

I like it. Very quick stories.

What "short run sci-fi series" are you referring to?

DNAgents are good reads.

So underrated. The first series starts off slow. But then the creative team warms up to the task of making their characters more human by included the personal problems in their lives while trying to help others.

Good stuff!

One thing I've never been able to fully ascertain is what issue Eclipse's in-house promo leaflet / mag "Eclipse Extra" ran to?

No.1 was Dec 1984

I've seen up to no.99 Mar 1993

I also understand this was the SECOND volume

when were the LAST cover-dates on Eclipse books before they went under? Can anyone help please? hm

MM no.23 is Aug 93?

In 1986, Eclipse lost most of its back-issue stock in a flood. This event, along with the repercussions of Mullaney and Yronwode's divorce, and the mid-1990s collapse of the direct market distribution system, caused the company to cease operations in 1994 and file for bankruptcy in 1995. The company's intellectual property rights were later acquired by Todd McFarlane. Mullaney also attributed the company's demise to a problematic contract with the book publisher HarperCollins. Eclipse's last publication was its Spring 1993 catalog, which was a complete bibliography of its publications.

So does McFarlane still own the property rights to everything Eclipse?

Could you imagine any one of those early stories with McFarlane art? Wow.

He's just so diversified he hasn't got the time to do anything with the property I bet.

I'd love to see a new Airboy series that lasts longer than one or two issues. And even better, something really dark involving The Heap, Valkyrie, Skywolf, Iron Ace, the Black Angel and Misery. Something that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

The fifty-issue series was really cool reading. And some of those later covers sure are keepers. But of course, there is always the best of the best.
