Here's the list for March 2014.

 

160 comics down, brings the total to 450. Almost half-way there!

 

Might have had a few more read this month, but didn't really read much last week, other than the new releases. And would have probably logged in more if I hadn't started the "Fantastic Four Unlimited" series. Gawd those books are LONG. And wordy. And terrible.

 

I'm actually planning on torturing myself and finishing the series.

 

Flip side - discovered some good stuff this month - "Avengers: The Children's Crusade", "Red Skull: Incarnate", the "Secret Warriors" series, and my FAVE character of all time, Kitty Pryde, in a nice little series drawn by one of FAVE artists of all time, Paul Smith.

 

The bad stuff - I'll attempt to stick with some books even if bad to see if they'll turn around. Can't say I'll do that for "Cryptozoic Man" after issue #1.

i've cut way back on my comic book reading this year but the % of spoon is way up. I've put Helheim #5-6 on my list to track down but the rest of these, yeesh.

April was a stellar month, really managed to put a big dent in my stacks of unread books.

Especially happy I managed to read the bulk of my Harvey Pekar books, really enjoyed these. Went out and got the American Splendor movie to watch it again...and then watched the Robert Crumb movie as well. Reading these books next to my usual superhero fare was actually a good idea. When I got tired of 5 issue of techno-babble in the latest Avengers or Manhattan Projects book, I could switch to the down to earth "adventures" and rants of Pekar and vice versa. In fact it made me read more in one sitting. Variety is indeed the spice of life.

So with the April comics counted, I'm at 835 comics read in 2014.. Looks like I'm going to hit 1000 around May 20th.

 

In 2011 I reached 1000 comics during the second week of June (2245 read in total)

In 2012 I hit 1000 comics during the first week of May (2500 read in total)

In 2013 I got to 1000 during the final week of May (2563 read in total)

Not a good month for me for reading, went on a trip for a week and only read maybe four things on my tablet on the flight (very bad, uncomfortable, cramped plane ride). Other than that, the rest of the month I was reading such that it sapped the will to want to open up anything else.

 

Everything I put in the "good" section actually was pretty much read in the last week, some really great stuff out there right now!

 

Only 86 read this month, bringing the total to 536.

 

I bought the new X-Men (#132-153) and JLA Omnibus collections. I "might" start them soon, still behind on some other collections I have though. Really want to crack open and relive the X book, I don't think I've read most of those since they were originally printed. (Soooooo happy that "Kitty's Fairy Tale" made this edition!)

Really tried to get into The Dark Knight Returns. Heck, even the first issue was pretty good & interesting. I just couldn't get past the art style and the story seemed so slow and boring. Had to give up shortly into issue #2. Feel guilty though as I'm sure it's considered a work of art to many, but sadly just not my cup of tea. Have enjoyed the other 98 issues read so far though, especially Afterlife With Archie. Looking forward to #5 being released today.

 

Also can't wait for two more issues of Superior Spider-Man. I'll admit it, was extremely anti-Doc Ock to the point of avoiding this series entirely. It was only after the "final issue" that I decided to give it at least a one issue chance. Was hooked from that moment on; couldn't read them all fast enough. Hope Superior Foes and Team-Up are equally good.

 

Think my absolute favorite so far though is "Joker" by Brian Azzarello. Such an incredible story, and absolutely beautiful artwork. Wish Azzarello and Bermejo worked together more often.

TWD #125-126. This has been a long time coming. Started picking this up monthly around #25, tracked down the trades and previous issues. Have re-read #1-48 a couple of times. Great stuff. The book has been spinning it's wheels ever since- populated with characters i don't recognize or don't care about. Issue #108 was unintentionally the most hysterical comic i've read in ages. Negan felt like he was written by an adolescent who had just discovered the F word and was trying to shock his parents.

I'm done.
