Agree. I enjoyed Five Ghosts much more than Black Science so far.

 

I guess I should check out Comeback. I haven't even heard of it ...

 

it's not an ongoing series. i tend to prefer minis, so keep that bias in mind.

Black Science is pretty good. I'm undecided on Manifest Destiny but it looks promising. Worst thing I read was God is Dead. The first six issues were amazing and I was really digging it but then the writers took it in a completely different direction and it sucked.

I really enjoyed the original Amazing Spider-man series. I've read the Ditko books multiple times and #200 and up as well. But for some reason I had never read anything from #40 to #200...except the keys. Think next year I'll read #1 through to #111

 

155 comics added for a total of 2226 comics read in 2014.

 

2014 was the year I really cut down on the new DC books, I still read about 50 new comics each month, but 80% is now non-Marvel and non-DC.

I've always defended new comics to collectors, agreeing that the writing has never been better. But maybe I now I need to ad, except Marvel and DC and most Super-hero titles.

 

My favorite new comics have been Indies (including Image, Boom, Dark Horse...) and mostly non-superhero title.

I'm a total Marvel zombie and always have been, but if a loyal soldier like me can't even stand to read the current output something must be really wrong.

And I don't even have to pay for them, I have an agreement with a comics store they get to use all my Silver Age books, original art etc...for special store events and I get to read all the new comics for free (the owner buys a copy of most new copies for himself).

So I can't even be bothered to take the Marvels home and read...free of charge doh!

 

Anyway as always, the reading club was a lot of fun ...even though I didn't quite reach the numbers I managed the previous years.

I passed 1000 last month. It was fun, but I won't be doing it in 2015. I had completely stopped reading prose to hit the one thousand mark. The good - read lots of fun stuff and have less unread stuff piling up in boxes and on shelves. The bad - Game Of Thrones may have spoilers this year if I don't hurry up.

They were probably included in the TPBs I was reading - like Batman Chronicles 16 & 'Tec 747 were included in vol. 2 of Gotham Central, "Half Life."

 

Weird, too - if you look at some of the Knightfall runs, some issues were not printed in any of the three volumes of the collected edition, like it skips an issue of Robin, Catwoman, Batman, 'Tec... and IDK why.

 

*edit* yeah, the Hulk issues were included in the Essential Classic X-Men volume I just read, along with other X-Men adventures that happened after issue #66, like the Amazing Adventures stories with The Beast, and the ASMs.

cool -- makes a little more sense to me now. I have only read the very early Fireside TPBs (back when they came out and I bought them in the 70s) and I couldn't quite figure out why those ones showed up as they did. Thought maybe you happened to get a few new books and read them before bagging and boarding.

I actually got the newer TPB (four volumes containing everything) through Interlibrary Loan at my university. Think they rereleased/updated it around the time the new Batman movie came out (2012?). Honestly surprised they didn't update the Knightfall TPB instead since, y'know, they're missing a small chunk of it int he first release.

 

Ah well. (shrug) NML was sooooo good. Will undoubtedly pick up a personal copy of the TPBs for rereading this (and probably next) year(s). Cannot recommend this story arc enough. Thinking of picking up Cataclysm and Contagion next as well.
